THE TAMWORTH GATE GALLOP - Sunday 24th June 2007
7 MILE MULTI-TERRAIN RACE, 3 MILE FUN RUN AND CHILDREN'S RACES
The 2007 Gate Gallop was held in Amington despite severe flooding to parts of the course with Andrezej Swatohski winning the 7 mile race in 40:57 followed by previous winner Phil Clamp (41:15) in second and Tamworth AC's Martyn Naunton (42:43) in third. In fourth was the first male veteran, Martin Dorrill (43:17).
The first lady was Mary Hall (53:38) with Rosie Dear from Ivanhoe Harriers winning the lady veteran award (56:09). The winning male team were PricewaterhouseCoopers with Bannatyne Babes the first ladies team. The Peel Road Runners were well represented with Matt Andrews being their leading finisher in 25th (48:37) and veteran Trevor Wylie in 27th (49:09).
The 3 mile Fun Run had 82 finishers with Mark Wells (19:35), Michael Easto (19:57) and Luke Hill (20:49) the leading three finishers. The first three female finishers were Rachel Robins (23:09), Nicole King (24:08) and Emma Cakebread (25:40).
The children's race attracted an estimated twenty-five runners.
Thanks must go to the Peel Road Runners who provide most of the marshalls for the race and to the many other helpers without whom this charity event would not have been the success that it was.
