THE TAMWORTH GATE GALLOP  - 29th JUNE 2008

7 MILE MULTI-TERRAIN RACE, 3 MILE FUN RUN AND CHILDREN'S RACES

Local runner Phil Clamp had a convincing victory in the 7 mile Gate Gallop race with a time of 41 minutes and 25 seconds over two minutes ahead of veteran Martin Dorrell (43:30) with Tamworth AC's Tom Orton in 3rd (43:43).  Hatton Darts won the men's team prize with finishers in 5th,7th,8th and 12th positions. The leading lady was veteran Jane Bartholomew in 17th (50:48) followed by Sarah Lloyd and Vickie Hewins.

The leading Peel Road Runner was Matt Andrews (52:47) in 29th with veteran Stuart Hatton finishing in 64:34. There were 160 finishers in total.

The Gate Gallop 3 mile Fun Run had a field of 71 finishers with Nigel Fisher in 1st in 20:08 followed by Robert Stroud and Alex Benfield. The leading female was Victoria Hollinshead (24:04) followed by Rachel Robins and Jasmine Oliver. There were two children's races attracting over forty runners.

The event was well supported by Tamworth Borough Council and the Peel Road Runners who supplied most of the marshalls. There was an army of helpers on the day all ensuring that a large donation will be made to St Giles Hospice to mark it's 25th anniversary.
