Welcome to the Peel Road Runners Website

Peel Road Runners are a Tamworth based running club, from Staffordshire in England and are now in their 17th year. The club was formed around Christmas 1991, after a breakway move from Tamworth Athletics Club and consisted of founder members, Chairman Greg Hall, President Ray Rogers, Secretary Dee Hall, and Treasurer Dave Ostins.

After the breakaway move from Tamworth Athletics club, several runners decided not to jump ship and when Peel Road Runners was conceived there were approximately 10 runners of which Sandra and Mary were the only 2 females.

After 12 months the commitee started to change with Pete Seedhouse becoming Chairman and Jeff Yardley the Secretary. The initial meeting place was Belgrave High School which was chosen for its amenities, ie showers but more importantly it had a bar!! After a couple of years at Belgrave a proposal to move the meeting venue to Tamworth Rugby club was proposed, but there were a few dissenting voices to the proposal so this never materialised. Then along came Peaks which gave us a central base from which to meet, whilst also surrounding us with other sporting activities, it has served us fantastically well ever since.

Although most original members are no longer running, albeit through age, they still have a firm involvment in the running and overview of the club. Namely Ray Rogers who is still President, along with Jeff Yardley who still organises the Gate Gallop along with Pete Seedhouse. These people work tirelessy in the background organising running events around Tamworth and help out with the Peel Cross Country Team also. We are indebted to them and to the original founders of the club for without them you & I would not be running for Peel Road Runners. Long may the club continue.

Club membership is now at a healthy 68 and we meet every Tuesday and Thursday night at Tamworth Snowdome@ 7pm.

Peaks now charge £1 for showers and lockers and we meet in the foyer.

Parking at Peaks is NOT free anymore, unless you are a member! 

The weekday runs are between 5-7 miles duration and leave the snowdome at 7.15pm. Some level of fitness is required for these evening runs, but we try and cater for most runners. The club colours are black and yellow and membership for new members is £36 which includes club running vest (this must be worn during races) & entry to the yearly presentation evening.  Annual membership renewal is £20 as this excludes club running vest & none runner subscription is £10

The men compete in the Birmingham Winter Cross Country Competitions and we now have a ladies team.

We hold a yearly presentation evening where prizes are awarded for various running categories.
