    Peeler Val tackles the Monsal Trail – Weekly round up – 30th Mar 2017

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PEEL ROAD RUNNER Val Lawson visited the Peak District last weekend, however not for its scenic views but to run in the inaugural Monsal Trail Half Marathon. The Monsal Trail is a former railway line and the half marathon route takes in four railway tunnels and crosses the picturesque Monsal Viaduct itself. Val finished the race in 2:03:29 and enjoyed a well earned cup of tea and a slice of the local Bakewell Tart.

    Kingsbury water Parkrun was the only other location to see the Peelers out running last weekend. In a packed field of runners the first Peeler home was Michael Shelton with a speedy time of 19:43mins.
    Ashley Perks managed to set another new PB for the season with a time of 21:11mins
    Behind Ashley was Richie Bunn 23:59mins, Tim Mudd 24:50mins, Robert Hirst 24:51mins, Lee Rickards (now recovered from the Barcelona Marathon) with 25:13mins just ahead of his wife Rachael Rickards with 25:21mins. Crossing the line immediately behind Rachael was Dave Fern with 25:22mins with Ian Grigg finishing with 29:44mins and Susan Cartmell in 40:49mins.

    Peel Road Runners meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm at the Snowdome in Tamworth.

    Hollamby races to a new personal best – Weekly round up – 23rd Mar 2017

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PEEL ROAD RUNNERS took to the roads last weekend with some strong and determined performances.

    Martin Hollamby continued his recent good form just up the M6 at the Stafford Half Marathon finishing in a superb time of 1:22:43 – smashing his PB by over two minutes!!
    Also running the tough course at Stafford were Dave Fern in 1:46:08, Joanne Harvey with a 1:56:49, Zoe Schnepp hit her race target time of 1:50:00, Richard Finnigan with 2:04:00 & Val Lawson who crossed the line in 2:11:04
    But by far the most popular Peeler to cross the finish line at Stafford last weekend was Chris Norris. Struggling with her recent form and confidence, Chris battled on and finished the 13.1 miles in 2:51:06

    Stretching their legs a little further for their marathon training saw Peelers in attendance at several 20mile races last weekend. Taking the trip down the M5 to run in the Gloucester 20 were Sandra Ingram, who struggled to keep her emotions intact after finishing with a fantastic time of 3:01:20 and Stuart Hatton who continued his comeback from injury crossing the finish line in 3:12:39

    A little closer to home at the Ashby20 Jenna Wilson battled through the windy conditions to finish the two lap course and be the first Peeler home in a time of 2:52:26 Not far behind Jenna was Tracey Cox who crossed the finish line with 2:53:32 Carolyne Browne was next home with 3:13:14 and Helen Manton in 3:25:57

    Micheal Shelton ran at the Richmond Half Marathon, completing the course in 1:31:10hrs

    In progressively wet and windy conditions down at Milton Keynes, Bob Donovan ran the Caldercotte Lakes “Week at the knees” Marathon. A seven lap loop course saw Bob home in a time of 5:22:11

    Kingsbury water Parkrun saw Tim Gould as the first Peeler home in a time of 22:37mins. Tim Mudd not too far behind with 24:04mins. Next to cross the finish was Robert Hirst in 26:07mins and George Hope in 30:23mins.

    Peelers at home and away – Weekly round up – 16th Mar 2017

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners hit the roads and parks at home and away last weekend.

    Over in Spain, club chairman Lee Rickards pounded the streets of Barcelona running his first marathon of the year, finishing with a time of 3hrs 24mins.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Back at the home of British Grand Prix, runners were taking on the Silverstone Half Marathon.

    The popular London Marathon warm up event saw Peelers take to the circuit in wet and windy conditions with Sandra Ingram representing the female Peel Road Runners crossing the chequered flag in 1:55:14hrs.

    Malcolm ‘Bembo’ Bembridge picked up an injury just after the half way point but still managed to finish in a credible 1:45:43hrs. Phil Neale completed the course in 1:48:21hrs and Darren Truman finished with a time of 2:09:57hrs.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”494″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Locally there were much better running weather conditions for the Florette Fradley 10k run.

    A popular two-lap event around the village and surrounding areas saw Michael Shelton breeze home in 57th place finishing with a time of 40:25mins.

    Following Shelton home were fellow Peelers Marcus Fairburn with 49:22mins, Lisa Crane finished with a new PB of 50:43mins, Darren Cotton in 50:56mins and Sue Fairburn in 59:08mins.

    Saturday saw Bob Donovan down in London taking on the Thames Meander Marathon.

    Recent weather conditions made the course very challenging in places with areas of the course under two feet of water.

    Not to be put off, Donovan and the other runners waded through all of the obstacles and he crossed the line in 224th place with a time of 5:31:38hrs.

    On parkrun duties, Matt Smith ran at Walsall Arboretum Parkrun finishing with a time of 19:36mins.

    Over at Kingsbury Water Parkrun, the first Peeler across the line was Ashley Perks in a quick 22:19mins. Shaun Coyle finished with a personal best in 23:03mins.

    Tim Mudd was the next Peeler to cross the line in 25:12mins with Dave Fern in 25:40mins and Robert Hirst with a time of 28:42mins.
