  • Weekly round up – 21st November 2017

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners travelled far and wide to participate in their weekly Parkrun events over the last two weeks.

    Last week Malcolm Bembridge was the farthest traveller flying all the to Russia take part in the Timiryazevsky Parkrun event. Malcolm finished in 18th place overall with a time of 22:15mins.

    Nickolas Neale had a much shorter journey over to Perry Hall for the 158th Parkrun event and completed the 5k route in 22:33mins.

    Many Peel Road Runners descended upon their local Kingsbury Water Parkrun where once again PB’s were being broken. It was Simon Smith who lead the way home with a time of 20:19mins. Shaun Coyle’s determined run earned him another PB with a time of 21:12mins, 25secs off his previous PB. Next to cross the finish line was Darren O’Leary who ran a 21:18min 5k. George Hope followed Darren home with 25:11min, Stuart Hatton had another pain free run following his comeback from injury and finished in 25:17mins. Behind Stuart were Marcus Fairburn 25:18mins, Dave Fern ran his 100th Kingsbury Parkrun in 25:18mins just ahead of Tim Mudd with 26:01mins.

    Emma Livingstone continues to improve and ran her 4th consecutive Parkrun PB in a time of 27:04mins, shaving 5 secs off her previous best time and just ahead of Allan Williams who ran a 27:10mins time.

    Michael Stevenson also ran his 3rd Kingsbury PB in as many outings at the venue with a time of 28:39mins – 27 secs off his previous best time.

    In the previous week, Shaun Coyle attended the Upton Court Parkrun event near Slough and managed 13th place overall with a time of 22:15mins.

    Michael Stevenson was down on the south coast in Hove running the local Parkrun along the promenade finishing just outside his PB with a time of 28:49mins.

    Back closer to home it was Philip Neale who lead the Peelers home at Kingsbury finishing his 5k in 23:21mins ahead of George Hope with a time of 24:45mins. Stuart Hatton followed George across the line in 25:34mins just ahead of the first Peel Road Runner female which was Carolyne Browne who finished with a 25:41mins.

    Dave Fern was next to finish with 25:43mins ahead of Vickie Gilks and Laura Bowyer who shared the same time of 31:39mins.

    Peel Road Runners individual results from the first Derby Runner Cross Country race have now been released.

    It was a very successful start to the XC season for both Women’s & Men’s teams as they took 1st place in both races with a mix of old and new members.

    For the men, it was Robbie Baden who crossed the finish line ahead of everyone else with a superb run of 34:36mins. The second Peeler to finish was Lawrence Williamson in 35:16mins ahead of Lee Rickards with 38:10mins. Finishing just behind Lee was Simon Smith 41:11mins, Darren O’Leary 42:55mins, Malcolm Bembridge 44:29mins, Craig Smith 44:54mins, Phil Neale 44:57mins, Darren Truman 46:53mins and Owen Slater with 53:31mins.

    It was a similar story for the women’s team with new member Emma Pick crossing the finish line as the first female finisher in an excellent time of 40:56mins. Emma Birtles ran a superb race to finish as the 2nd Peel female and in 3rd place overall with a time of 42:52mins. Hannah Jenkins finished in 7th place overall with 46:25mins ahead of Rachael Rickards 48:30mins, Natalie Walker 50:23mins, Sophie Galloway 51:16mins, Team Captain Sandra Ingram finished with a 54:19mins and Lisa Fletcher with 61:17mins.

    Peel Road Runners meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm at the Snowdome in Tamworth.

  • Weekly round up – 7th November 2017

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners kicked off the 2017/18 Cross Country Winter League is style last weekend with some tremendous individual performances.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”681″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]With a change of league from last year the Peel Road Runners now compete in the Derby Runner League (Derby / Staffs Division) alongside teams from Lichfield, South Derby, Mickleover, MVH & Smalley. The change also brings with it the opportunity for both the Men’s & Women’s teams to compete at the same venue on the same day.

    Race 1 was held at the Foremark Reservoir in Derbyshire and was a two-lap course covering approximately 5.5miles of a mix of trail / off road and bridle paths. Conditions were ideal for XC running and the well represented Peel Road Runners teams certainly made the best of the conditions.

    Peel Road Runners posted 1st & 3rd places in both the men’s & women’s events. Robbie Baden leading the men home and Emma Pick crossing the finish line first for the women’s event.

    The Peel men’s team scored 158pts and lie in 2nd place in the league table behind Lichfield RC and the Peel women’s team also lie in 2nd place behind Lichfield RC having scored 151pts. The combined team are 2nd in the league table just 71pts behind table topping Lichfield RC and 100pts ahead of 3rd place Mickleover.

    Weekends wouldn’t be the same without a bit of Parkrunning and last weekend was no exception – there was even some Peeler Parkrun tourists out on their travels.

    Shaun Coyle travelled back to his roots and ran at the Tees Barrage Parkrun up north in Stockton on Tees. Continuing his recent good form Shaun managed a time of 23:05mins, finishing in 30th position out of a field of 264 runners.

    Travelling even further north, Kirkcaldy in Scotland to be precise, Laura Bowyer and Vicki Gilks finished their 5k runs in times of 31:18mins & 32:04mins respectively.

    Back closer to home at Kingsbury Water Parkrun it was Garth Cox who led the Peelers home finishing in a time of 23:18mins. George Hope followed Garth across the finish line with a time of 25:01mins with Stuart Hatton close behind with 25:37mins.

    Lisa Jones-Bignell was the first Peel lady to finish and doubled up her weekend celebrations with a new Personal Best time with 26:32mins. Christie Rosser was right behind Lisa finishing with 26:33mins and smashing her own previous Personal Best time by over 2 mins!!

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners headed for the hills last weekend with several members taking on the mountainous challenge of the Snowdonia Marathon in North Wales.

    For Michael Shelton, this was the last of his ‘four in four’ challenge (four marathons in 4 weeks for the charity MIND) and was by far the hardest of them all. Accompanied by Trevor the Bear for the last time, Michael broke through all the mental and physical barriers and managed to complete the scenic 26.2mile route in a time of 4:43:43hrs.

    Also taking on the Snowdonia mountains were Carolyne Browne who training efforts was rewarded with a finish time of 4:56:18hrs, Helen Manton who crossed the finish line in a time of 5:36:15hrs and Martin Candy with a time of 5:44:40hrs.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”634″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][vc_single_image image=”633″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Bob Donovan was back at Caldecotte Lakes, Milton Keynes participating in day 3 of the Three Lakes Marathon Challenge. Bob’s finishing time was 5:07:48hrs finishing in 16th place on the day.

    Running at the Worksop Half Marathon were Peel Road Runners Joanne Harvey & Helen Chyla who, whilst finding the race tougher than expected, both finished the day smiling and recorded times of 2:04:06hrs & 2:05:17hrs respectively.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”635″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”636″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Also running the 13.2-mile half marathon distance but this time down in Rugby were Malcolm Bembridge and Shaun Coyle. On a surprisingly hilly route the pair had a good run out together with Malcom crossing the finish line in a time of 1:43:00hrs and Shaun Coyle recording a new H/M PB with a time of 1:44:06hrs.

    The Parkrun PB’s continued to tumble with several runners posting new best times. Running at Kingsbury Water Park it was Simon Smith who lead the Peelers home finishing in 15th place overall with a time of 20:09mins. Darren O’Leary posted a new 5k PB by beating last weeks’ time by 5 secs to finish with 20:36mins. Next to finish and also posting a new PB time was Shaun Coyle with 21:37mins, just ahead of Phil Neale who also notched up his second PB in as many weeks with a time of 22:45mins, 13secs quicker than last week.

    Allan Willliams completed the 5k route in 24:58mins ahead of George Hope 25:35mins and Stuart Hatton 25:49mins.

    Annie Wilson continued her recent good running form and led the Peel Road Runners ladies section home with a new PB time of 26:14mins, her third PB in the last 4 outings at Kingsbury. The PB’s just kept coming as Emma Livingstone took 40 secs of her previous best finishing with 27:09mins.

    Dave Fern, now just 2 runs away from his 100 milestone at Kingsbury Water Parkrun finished with 28:47mins just ahead of Ian Grigg who ran a 29:01mins. Laura Bowyer ran 29:25min, Vickie Gilks was just outside her PB with 31:24mins and Muriel Storey completed the PB’s at Kingsbury with a time of 31:31mins.

    Over at Walsall Arboretum were Robert Hirst who ran a 24:36mins for the 5k route & Christine Norris who’s 36:42mins time saw her finish 1st in her age category.
