  • Weekly Round Up – 28th October 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Saturday morning bought a spooky feel to Kingsbury Water park for the Halloween special parkrun. Several intrepid Peelers braved the heavy rain, mud and flooded paths to enjoy the occasion.

    First home for the club was Phil Neale in a time of 23.26 mins. Not far behind was Simon Gordon in 23.47 mins followed by Neal Dempsey (24.59), Tim Mudd (25.28),  Sophie Galloway (27.22), Helen Dempsey (28.55), Jackie Tierney (32.07), Alison Upton (34.28) and Wendy Bowyer (35.21).

    Further afield Chris Bennett (23.01) and Sarah French (33.41) completed the Conkers event. Rob Mace was third overall at the Bedgebury Pinetum event in Kent in a fast 20.31 mins. Andrew Pickard finished in 23.01 mins at the Sheffield Castle parkrun and Marie Llewellyn stopped the clock at 25.15 at the Gadebridge parkrun. Finally Michael Stevenson cantered home in 29.04 mins at the Warwick Racecourse parkrun.

    Congratulations go to Mark Webster who participated in the extremely challenging Snowdonia Marathon, his first ever marathon. He finished in a strong 3:31.26 hrs, a great time given the terrain and indeed a time that many would be delighted with on a flat course!
    Across the Irish Sea , Mike Shelton completed the Dublin Marathon in a time of 4:05.07 hrs.

    The club is planning to hold a Bridge to 10k course during the Autumn. The course is aimed at runners who are already able to run 5k and will provide coaching to allow them to progress to running 10k. The course is free of charge and anyone interested is asked to contact the club through our Peel Road Runners Beginners Facebook page. We are also planning to run a couch to 5k course for beginners within the next few months.

  • Weekly Round Up – 21st October 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good club presence at the Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday morning. First home for the club was Zac Gibbons in a fast 21.52 mins. He was followed by Phil Neale (22.21), Darren O’Leary and Andrew Pickard (both 24.01), then Sandra Ingram and Jo Insley (both 29.30), Claire Guffick (31.02), Lee Guffick (32.37), Alison Dolphin (37.37), Christine Norris (37.49) and Wendy Bowyer (42.06).

    Away from home, Chris Bennett (23.15 mins) and Garth Cox (23.50) both completed the Chasewater parkrun. Jackie Tierney finished the Finsbury park event in London in 27.55 mins and Ann Hill (33.25) and Sarah French (34.26) attended the Conkers parkrun in Leicestershire. Tim Mudd was the furthest travelled Peeler of the week completing the Krakow, Poland parkrun in a time of 25.03 mins.

    Sunday bought the eagerly awaited first round of the winter cross country league. Round 1 was at Anslow near Burton on Trent and despite the dry sunny weather, conditons were perfect with the expected amount of mud for a cross country event. The race was a 3 lap course of 5.5 miles with a cooling dip in the stream on every lap. It was encouraging to see a good club turnout with 20 runners plus supporters.

    In the men’s event Mark Webster was the first Peeler home in 22nd place overall. He was followed by Troy Lancaster (31st), Lee Rickards (32nd), Zac Gibbons (53rd), Stephen Baker (69th), Darren O’Leary (89th), Simon Gordon (97th), Craig Strong (102nd), Roger Lloyd (111th) and Stuart Hatton (124th). In the lady’s event Zoe Schnepp was first home in 16th place, followed by Kathryn Adams (22nd), Donna Lancaster (26th), Rachael Rickards (34th), Sophie Galloway (60th), Sandra Ingram 67th, Carolyne Browne (74th), Emma Livingstone (75th), Val Lawson (80th) and Helen Manton 84th. Thanks also go to Andrew Pickard, Martin Hollamby and Ray Rogers for their support and to Lisa Fletcher for helping collate the results. We are looking forward to the next round, which is a ‘home’ event for the club at Cliff Lakes on 24th November.

    Ash Goodman completed his first ever marathon at the Yorkshire Marathon in a strong time of 3:50.32 hrs. Rob Mace was second overall at the Cannock Chase Canicross on Saturday with his dog Axis, finishing in a time of 19.53 mins. On Sunday he finished in second place overall at the Thoresby 10k in the East Midlands in a fast 40.27 mins. Helen and Neal Dempsey also completed the event in a time of 1:02 hrs.

  • Weekly Round Up – 14th October 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The main event of the weekend was the Great Birmingham Run half marathon on Sunday. Unfortunately due to a security alert the course was shortened to 11 miles. The club was well represented at the event with Mark Webster the first Peeler home in a fast 1:11.55 hrs. He was followed by Phil Neale in a time of 1:22.09 hrs. Next came Darren O’Leary in a time of 1:29.49 hrs followed by Darren Truman (1:36.28), Tim Mudd (1;39.44), Chris Bennett (1:42.55), Emma Livingstone (1:45), Carolyne Browne (1:45.48), Sophie Galloway (1:49.28) and Sarah French and Ann Hill ( both 2:14.45).

    Martin Hollamby competed in the Lakes in a Day ultra race in the Lake District on Saturday, covering a distance of 51 miles with 2.5 miles of vertical ascent. finishing in eighth place overall in a time of 10:43 hrs, a new personal best for the event by 3 hours. Andrew Pickard also completed his first ultra event in slightly less mountainous conditions, the 50 mile Round Rotherham race in a time of 10:29 hrs.

    George Hope ran the Manchester Half Marathon in a time of 1:47.22, a new personal best for the distance. Rob Mace completed the Great Dalby Dollop, a very muddy 4 mile course with his dog Axis, finishing in second place overall in a time of 25.27 mins.

    Kingsbury Water Park parkrun took place on Saturday for the first time in 3 weeks, albeit on an altered course as the park was still very wet after recent rain. First home for the club was Garth Cox in a time of 23.56 mins. He was followed by Kathryn Adams and Mike Shelton (both 24.31 mins), Tricia Bunn (28.24) and husband Richie (28.25), Alison Upton (32.41), Caroline Evans (32.41), Christine Norris (37.13) and Wendy Bowyer (39.53 mins). Thanks go to Darren O’Leary and Mike Shelton for volunteering to help make the event possible.

    There were quite a few Peelers out and about attending other parkruns with Mark Boffey completing the Conkers event in 23.19 mins. Ashley Perks finished in 24.11 mins. Sandra Ingram ran the Aberystwyth event in a time of 26.28 mins and Jackie Tierney cantered round the new Warwick Racecouse parkrun in a time of 27.28 mins. Claire and Lee Guffick ran Chasewater in times of 30.37 and 33.30 mins respectively and Marie LLewellyn finished the Gadebridge parkrun in 24.24 mins. Marcus Fairburn (26.49 mins) and Stuart Hatton (27.03) visited the Brueton Park event in Solihull.

  • Weekly Round Up – 7th October 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]With Kingsbury Water Park under water for the second weekend in succession, once again Peelers had to venture further afield for their weekly parkrun therapy.

    Rob Mace attended the Rosliston parkrun, his first visit to the event, and won the event in a time of 19.11 mins, while Mark Webster attended the Sutton Park event and finished in 8th place in a quick 19.29 mins. Garth Cox completed the Bedworth parkrun in 24.31 mins and Tim Mudd completed Babbs Mill in 26.14 mins. Jackie Tierney was a vistor to the Hanley parkrun finishing in a time of 28.29 mins and Laura McGrath crossed the line at the Brierley Forest event in 27.12 mins. At the Conkers parkrun Sophie Galloway finished in a time of 27.19 mins followed by Claire Guffick (32.17) and Lee Guffick (33.20). Michael Stevenson was first home for the club at Chasewater in 29.26 mins followed by Helen and Neal Dempsey (both 31.10 mins) and Marie Llewellyn recorded a time of 23.59 mins at the Mile End parkrun in London.

    The main local event of the weekend was the Tamworth 10k on Sunday, this was well attended by Peelers on what is traditionally a fast course. First home for the club was Nick Barlow in a new personal best time of 46.04 mins. He was followed home by Roger Lloyd (48.23), Simon Gordon (48.35), Chris Bennett (49.16), Mark Boffey (51.10) and Stella Martin in 59.42 mins. Claire Guffick set a new personal best in a time of 1:04.48 hrs as did Ann Hill and Wendy Bowyer who finished in times of 1:05.27 hrs and 1:10.10 hrs respectively. Sarah French came home in a time of 1:14.41 hrs.

    Elsewhere Mike Shelton completed the Cardiff Half Marathon in a time of 1:46.38 hrs, Zoe Schnepp set a new personal best of 47.37 mins at the Shelton Striders 10k event and Val Lawson took on the challenging Goose Fair Gallop trail 10k, finishing in a time of 1;03.41 hrs.

    Malcolm Bembridge took on the challenge of the Chester Marathon finishing in a great time of 3:37.38 hrs.

  • Weekly Round Up – 30th September 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Unfortunately Saturday’s Kingsbury Water parkrun was a casualty of the recent wet weather with the event cancelled due to flooding.

    Not to be deterred a number of hardy Peelers ventured elsewhere for their Saturday morning exercise. Michael Stevenson finished the Brueton Park Solihull event in 29.57 mins. Claire Guffick and Lee Guiffick completed the Sutton Park event in 33.34 and 34.36 mins respectively. Several Peelers went to Conkers with Christine Norris running 38.02 mins, followed by Alison Dolphin in 38.13 mins and Roger Lloyd in 48.44 mins. At Chasewater Garth Cox finished in 25.22 mins on his return from injury followed by Neal Dempsey and Helen Dempsey (both 29.01 mins). Further afield Andrew Pickard ran the Sheffield Concord event in 21.20 mins, Jackie Tierney completed the Newbury parkrun in 29.14 mins, and Sarah French finished the Penrhyn event in North Wales in 33.04 mins.

    Donna Lancaster braved Sunday’s wet weather to complete the Tissington Trail half marathon in the Peak District in a time of 1:54.00 hrs and Phil Neale finished the Blenheim half marathon in a strong 1:41.27 hrs. Jo Insley and Sophie Galloway both tackled the Equinox 24 hour event, both completing a total of 30k by running three 10k events during the 24 hour period. Claire Guffick completed the Brewood Woggle 10k in a time of 1:06.56 hrs.

    Friday evening saw the annual awards ceremony for the Burton and District Summer League, a series of eight races that the club participates in along with several other Midlands running clubs. The club was represented in the final awards with Ash Baldwin winning the Senior Male award and Emma Pick winning the Under 25 Female award as the most consistent runners in their categories across the eight events.

  • Weekly Round Up – 16th September 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The club was well represented at the Kingsbury Water parkrun on Saturday morning.

    First home for the club was Mark Webster in sixth place overall in a new personal best time of 18.33 mins. New member Zac Gibbons was next in 16th overall also setting a new personal best time of 20.09 mins, just ahead of Rob Mace who finished in 19th overall in a time of 20.29 mins. Darren O’Leary was next in 22.16 mins just ahead of Phil Neale (22.19) then Jackie Tierney (27.15), Michael Stevenson (28.57), Ash Goodman (31.36), Ann Hill (31.55), Sarah French (31.56), Nicola Bannister (37.15) and Christine Norris (37.24). Andrew Pickard was the sole Peeler on tour completing the Graves Park event in Sheffield in a time of 22.29 mins.

    The main event of the weekend for most was the Tamworth 5 mile event on Sunday. This was the final race of the Burton and Distrixct Summer League that the club participates in.

    Ash Baldwin was first home for the club in fifth place overall in an impressive 28.16 mins. He was followed by Mark Webster, in a new personal best time of 31.56 mins, followed by Rob Mace (32.16) and then Emma Pick who was third lady in a time of 33.17 mins. Ash Goodman completed the course in 35.50 mins followed by Nick Barlow (38.45), Roger Lloyd (39.40), Carl Hole (42.10), Emma Livingstone (44.31), Sandra Ingram (45.33), Alison Upton (49.18), Ann Hill (51.46) and Wendy Bowyer (1:01.33) hrs.

    Elsewhere Helen and Neal Dempsey completed the Calke Abbey 10k , both in a time of 1:04.57 hrs.

  • Weekly Round Up – 9th September 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The last weekend was a busy one with members involved in events up and down the country.

    The main event of the weekend was the Great North Run, the famous half marathon in Newcastle. First home for the club was Mark Webster in a new personal best time of 1:26.12 hrs. Next came Phil Neale who finished in 1:39.08 hrs followed by George Hope (1:57.24), Mark Boffey (1:58), Tim Mudd (2:09.30), Carolyne Browne (2:13.56) and Jackie Tierney (2:22).

    Also taking place on Sunday was the Draycott 20 mile race. Congratulations go to Ash Goodman who finished in 2:51.26 hrs just ahead of Mike Shelton in 2:52.44.

    Closer to home the Lichfield 10k also took place on Sunday with Judith Matthews the first Peeler home in 49:03 mins, followed by Carl Hole who recorded a new personal best time of 50:37 mins. He was followed by Sophie Galloway (56.06), Sandra Ingram (56.31), Sarah French (1:14.56 hrs) and Christine Norris (1:15 hrs).

    Ash Baldwin was the sole club representative at the John Fraser 10 mile race in Leicestershire finishing in fourth place overall in a quick 59:01 mins.

    Neal and Helen Dempsey both participated in the Canicross Magic Mile event finishing in times of 6.16 mins and 7.57 mins respectively.

    Despite all of the other activty at the weekend , there was still a good club turrnout at Kingsbury water park on Saturday morning.

    First home for the club was Lawrence Williamson enjoying a rare outing and finishing in a strong fourth place overall in a time of 17.45 mins. He was followed by Mike Shelton (22.09), Darren O’Leary (22.27), Roger Lloyd (24.53), Neal Dempsey (25.46), Sophie Galloway (26.08), Helen Dempsey (26.33), Sandra Ingram (28.30), Michael Stevenson (30.24), Alison Upton (30.34), Sarah French (32.57), Wendy Bowyer (36.58) and Christine Norris (38.21).

    On tour were Andrew Pickard who finished the Sheffield Concord event in 23.32 mins and Jackie Tierney who completed the Doncaster parkrun in 27.28 mins. Furthest travelled Peeler of the week was Dave Fern who tackled the Ganavan Sands parkrun in Oban in a time of 25.52 mins.

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good club turnout at Kingsbury water park on satursday morning in very pleasant weather for parkrun.

    Mark Webster led the Peelers home in eight place overall in a new personal best time of 18.39 mins. He was followed by Dave Fern in 23.59 mins, Carl Hole who set a new personal best time of 24.03 mins then came Stuart Hatton (25.37), Jackie Tierney ( 27.25), Helen Dempsey (29.54), Neal Dempsey (29.55), Michael Stevenson (30.03), Ash Goodman (32.43), Ann Hill (33.29), Sarah French (33.59), Wendy Bowyer (36.14), Alison Dolphin and Christine Norris (both 38.22) and Nicola Bannister (38.23).

    On tour were Sophie Galloway who completed the Chasewater event in 26.53 mins, Zoe Schnepp who finished in 23.09 at Exeter Riverside, Andrew Pickard who clocked 21.07 at Penistone and Marie Llewellyn who finished in 24.04 mins at the Gadebridge event.

    The Kenilworth half marathon took place on Sunday. Congratulations go to Ash Goodman for finishing in a new personal best time of 1:38.15 hrs and to Sophie Galloway who finished in a time of 2:05.55 hrs.

    The Spitfire 10k also took place on Sunday at RAF Cosford. Neal Dempsey finished in a new personal best time of 55.10 mins followed by wife Helen who also recorded a personal best of 1:00.31 hrs. Alison Upton completed the course in 1:03.42 hrs.

    Congratulations also go to Martin Hollamby who finished the Dartmoor Higher Ground Marathon in fourth place overall in a time of 3:58.33 hrs. The course featured over a mile of vertical ascent in its 26 miles.

  • Weekly Round Up – 26th August 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday was well attended in untypically warm conditions for a bank holiday weekend!

    Mike Shelton led the Peelers home in 15th overall in a time of 20.36 mins. He was followed by Phil Neale in 21.32 mins then Nick Barlow (22.55) who finished just ahead of Darren O’Leary (22.58). Dave Fern was next in 23.59 mins then Tim Mudd (25.52), Stella Martin (29.20), Ann Hill (31.41), Sarah French (31.45), Sophie Galloway (33.07), Wendy Bowyer (35.24) and new club secretary Alison Dolphin who finished in 39.10 mins.

    With it being a holiday weekend, Peelers were spread far and wide with Emma Pick finishing as first lady at the Conkers parkrun in 20.45 mins and Sandra Ingram was the first in her age category at Babbs Mill parkrun finishing in 27.30 mins. Elsewhere Andrew Pickard completed the Frickley Common event in 21.19 mins, Jackie Tierney the Bestwood Village event in 30.51 mins, Simon Gordon completed the Brighouse parkrun in 23.45 mins, Michael Stevenson clocked 29.31 mins at the Millfield parkrun, Alison Upton finished the Poole event in 30.16 mins and Zoe Schnepp completed the the Cliffe Castle event in 24.38 mins.

    Sunday was the annual Atherstone 10k,organised by the Badgers. This is traditionally a tough, hilly course with the warm conditions adding to the challenge this year. First home for the club was Mark Webster in a very competitive 41.25 mins. He was followed by Mike Shelton (54.59), Victoria Hall (57.18), Darren Truman (57.56), Natalie Walker (58.15), Stella Martin (1:04.05 hrs) and Martyn Candy in 1:08.29 hrs. Neal Dempsey finished in 1:08.52 hrs just ahead of wife Helen (1:08.56 hrs).

  • Weekly Round Up – 12th August 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The main event of the weekend was the Burton 10k on Sunday, which is a race in the summer league that the club participates in, and the club was well represented.

    First home for the club was Ash Baldwin in ninth place overall in a time of 36.07 mins. Rob Mace finished in a new personal best time for the event of 39.40 mins, just ahead of Mark Webster in 40.06 mins. Emma Pick finished in 43.34 on her return from injury ahead of Malcolm Bembridge (44.45), Ash Goodman (45.12, a new personal best), Judith Matthews (50.22), Dave Fern (51.05), George Hope (52.02), Simon Gordon (52.25), Stuart Hatton (53.37) and Sandra Ingram (58.04).

    Zoe Schnepp completed the Erewash Half Marathon in the East Midlands in a time of 1:58.04 hrs.

    The Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday was again cancelled due to flooding with a few hardy Peelers making it to other events. The best attended of these was the new Babbs Mill parkrun, in its second week, with Carl Hole finishing in 26.02 mins, a new personal best, having been paced round by Rob Mace (26.03). Sandra Ingram finished in 29.08 mins and Jackie Tierney in 30.11 mins. Mark Webster went to Walsall finishing in a quick 19.06 mins, Mike Shelton completed Sutton Park in 25.03 mins, Andrew Pickard finished the Poolsbrook Chesterfield event in 21.19 mins and Christine Norris completed the Conkers parkrun in 38.24 mins.
