  • Weekly Round Up – 5th August 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was the usual strong turnout on Saturday morning for the regular Kingsbury Water Park parkrun.

    First home for the club was Mark Webster who was 17th overall in a strong 19.41 mins. He was followed by Andrew Pickard in 22.16 mins, Ash Goodman (22.39), Dave Fern (24.13), Mike Shelton (24.17), Stuart Hatton (24.27), Simon Gordon (25.17), Neal Dempsey (27.15), Darren Truman (28.45), Darren O’Leary (29.20), Phil Neale (29.21), Sophie Galloway (30.01), Alison Upton (30.40) and Helen Dempsey (31.37). Sandra Ingram also volunteered to assist with the smooth running of the event.

    Not content with just running parkrun several hardy Peelers ran from Fazeley to Kingsbury, ran parkrun and then ran back, making it around a half marathon distance. Well done Sophie Galloway, Darren Truman, Simon Gordon, Ash Goodman and Andrew Pickard.

    On tour were Sarah French who completed the Conkers event in 32.47 mins, Laura McGrath who finished the Rodding valley parkrun in 27.20 mins and Jackie Tierney who stopped the clock at 28.34 mins at the Sixfields Upton event.

    Neal and Helen Dempsey both completed the Cannock Chase 10k trail run in a time of 1:09.59 hrs and Lawrence Williamson finished in 20th place in the Cowman Middle Distance Triathlon. Martin Hollamby competed in the Peak Skyline 50k Ultra race finishing in 11th place overall in a time of 5:42 hrs.

  • Weekly Round Up – 29th July 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A few hardy Peelers braved the rain to turn out for the regular Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday morning.

    First home for the club was Mark Webster who was 10th overall in a strong 19.18 mins. He was followed by Darren O’Leary in 22.27 mins, Ash Goodman (24.48), Sandra Ingram (27.18), Neal Dempsey (27.56), Jackie Tierney (28.30), Helen Dempsey (29.00) and Michael Stevenson (29.08).

    On tour were Andrew Pickard who finished the Penistone event in 23.44 mins, Sophie Galloway who finished the Chasewater event in 26.46 mins and Sarah French who completed the Conkers event in 32.52 mins.

    The annual Abbott Trail 10k event was held in the woods and hills of Hopwas on Sunday and in heavy rain. Rob Mace completed the distance in 42.45 mins and in fourth place overall. Mark Webster finished in fifth place overall. Helen and Neal Dempsey both finished the event in 1:08.02 hrs. Ash Goodman completed the Staffordshire Knot 5 mile race in 37.43 mins. Martin Hollamby completed the first and fifth legs of the Bob Graham ultra event in the Lake District. The overall event covers 100km with 8,800 metres of vertical ascent, the same as the height of Mount Everest!

    First home for the club was Rob Mace in eighth place overall in a quick 18.24 mins. Not far behind was Mark Webster who was 11th overall in a strong 19.01 mins. He was followed by Mike Shelton in 21.31 mins then Ash Goodman in 22.49 mins, Darren O’Leary (23.08), Stuart Hatton (25.24), Tim Mudd (26.24), Sophie Galloway (27.02), Neal Dempsey (28.09), Sandra Ingram (28.38), Alison Upton (29.01), Michael Stevenson (29.06), Helen Dempsey (31.56) and Sarah French (33.34).

    On tour were Andrew Pickard who finished the Sheffield Hallam event in 21.40 mins and Nickolas Neale who finished the Sutton Park event in 31.47 mins .

    Lawrence Williamson finished in third place overall in the Blythfield triathlon in a time of 2:13.13 hrs, completing a 1,500 metre swim, a 40k bike ride and a 10k run to finish.

  • Weekly Round Up – 15th July 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a strong turnout on Saturday morning for the regular Kingsbury Water Park parkrun. First home for the club was Mark Webster who was 12th overall in a strong 19.35 mins. He was followed by Mike Shelton in 21.19 mins then Darren O’Leary (23.16), Dave Fern (23.28), Stuart Hatton (24.24), Ash Goodman (25.00) and Sophie Galloway who set a new personal best time of 25.30 mins. Sandra Ingram was next to finish in 26.55 mins followed by Michael Stevenson (28.34), Alison Upton (28.51), Ian Grigg (29.33), Darren Truman (29.34), Ann Hill (31.31) and Sarah French (31.44).

    On tour were Caroline Evans who completed the Cannock Chase event in 31.54 mins, Andrew Pickard who finished the Sheffield Concord event in 21.39 mins, Nickolas Neale finished Sutton Park in 32.39 mins and Jackie Tierney, who completed the new Chasewater event in 26.56 mins. Further afield Zoe Schnepp completed the Woolacombe Dunes event in Devon in 30.20 mins.

    Last Wednesday evening the club participated in the Worthington 5 mile race. There was a strong club turnout as this was a qualifying race in the summer league that the club participates in.

    Ash Baldwin was an impressive fourth overall in a time of 28.50 mins. Not too far behind Rob Mace finished in 20th overall in 30.58 mins. He was followed by Mark Webster (32.44), Andrew Pickard (35.56), Phil Neale (36.28), Donna Lancaster (41.06) and Emma Livingstone, who set a new 5 mile personal best of 42.09 mins. Stuart Hatton finished in 43.21 mins, Caroline Browne in 44.50 mins, Sandra Ingram in 46.00 mins, Alison Upton in a new personal best of 50.18 mins and Caroline Evans in 54.28 mins.

    A few Peelers entered the Shenstone 10k fun run on Sunday. Malcolm Bembridge finished in 44.56 mins, Nick Barlow in 50.31 mins and Sophie Galloway in 56.11 mins. The Wyre Forest trail half marathon also took place on Sunday on a challenging course. Mark Webster finished 11th overall in a fast 1:33.57 hrs and Simon Gordon finished in 2:07.39 hrs.

    Ash Baldwin finished the Peak District Ultra race in fifth place in a time of 5:10.17 hrs. This was a 29 miles across hilly terrain, well done Ash on a great achievement.

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good club turnout at a busy Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday, amongst over 750 keen runners.

    First home for the club was Malcolm Bembridge in a time of 20.42 mins, just ahead of Lawrence Williamson who crossed the line in 20. 53 mins. Dave Fern finished in 23.49 mins ahead of Mark Webster (24.29), Sophie Galloway (26.56), Sandra Ingram (28.05), Jackie Tierney (28.25), Michael Stevenson (28.27), Alison Upton (28.55), Jo Insley (30.20), Ann Hill (32.22), Sarah French (32.26), and Wendy Bowyer (38.51).

    On tour were Andrew Pickard who completed the Sheffield Concord event in 22.05 mins and Nickolas Neale who finished in 31.30 mins at Sutton Park.

  • Weekly Round Up – 1st July 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kingsbury Water Park dawned hot and sunny on Saturday for park run, making for some fairly challenging conditions.

    Ashley Goodman was first home in a new personal best time of 21.35 mins, ably assisted by Mike Shelton who finished in the same time. Zoe Schnepp was the fastest lady Peeler in 23.49 mins followed by Darren O’Leary (25.00), Stuart Hatton (25.28), Sophie Galloway (26.47), Michael Stevenson (28.21) and Caroline Evans (32.26). Garth Cox volunteered as tail walker, finishing last of all.

    On tour were Andrew Pickard who completed the Wetherby event in 27.21 mins, Jackie Tierney the Colwick parkrun in Nottingham in 29.50 mins and Nickolas Neale who finished in 22.49 mins at Sutton Park.

    Sunday was the annual Tamworth Gate Gallop off road 10k which is run by the club on behalf of St Basils Hospice as a much needed fund raiser. Once again the weather was kind and it came as a relief that Sunday was cooler than Saturday.

    First home for the club was Rob Mace in 15th place overall in a fast 40.05 mins. Next home was Ash Goodman in a new personal best time of 47.22 mins, then Roger Lloyd (53.59), Simon Gordon (54.28), Carl Hole (54.59), Jo Insley (1:00.01 hrs), Val Lawson (1:01.32), Jackie Tierney (1:05.50), Bob Donovan (1:07.08), Ann Hill (1:16.09), Sarah French (1:16.15), Wendy Bowyer (1:17.52) and Christine Norris (1:24.03).

    The club was represented in the 4.4km fun run were Beth Woodward who finished in 26.30 mins and Lesley Nolan who completed in 34.57 mins.

    Thanks go to all the club members who gave up their time to assist with the organisation of the event, particularly Zoe Schnepp without whose efforts over several months the event would not take place.

    Elsewhere Andrew Pickard completed the Endure 24 hour event at Branham Park in Wetherby completing five 5 mile laps within the time allowed. Ash Baldwin also completed, completing six 5 mile laps within the 24 hours.

  • Weekly Round Up – 24th June 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It was business as usual at Kingsbury Water Park on Saturday morning for the return of parkrun following last week’s flooding. Saturday dawned warm and dry but the course was still distinctly soggy in places.The club was well represented, including two of the top 10 finishers.

    Rob Mace finished in fifth place overall in a time of 18.11 mins, closely followed by Mark Webster in tenth in a time of 18.46 mins. Martin Hollamby came next in 22.01 mins followed by Dave Fern (23.40), Ash Goodman (25.40), Jo Insley (26.53), Alison Upton (28.36), Michael Stevenson (28.44), Sarah French and Ann Hill (both 31.44), Joanne Turner (32.49), Lisa Vickery (35.39), Alison Dolphin 38.01 and Christine Norris (38.08 mins). Garth Cox also supported the event by volunteering.

    On tour were Marie Llewellyn who completed the Cannon Hill event in 24.21 mins, Andrew Pickard who finished the Rotherham Parkrun in 22.24 mins and Nickolas Neale who finished the Sutton Park event in 30.20 mins. Jackie Tierney completed the Hampstead Heath parkrun in 30.52 mins and Tim Mudd was a long way from home completing the Fort William event in 28.55 mins.

    Also present at Kingsbury on Saturday morning were the club’s latest batch of Couch to 5k course graduates for their first park run. Congratulations to Joanne Turner (32.49 mins), Mark Render (33.04), Lisa Vickery (35.39), Wendy Roe and Charlotte Bright (both 42.07), Glenda Watson (44.37) and Zoe Locke (47.50).

    Also on Saturday Mike Shelton took a group of hardy Peelers to follow the course of the London Landmarks half marathon, albeit at a slightly more leisurely pace with a few refreshment stops. A nice day out in the sunshine was had by Sandra Ingram, Sophie Galloway, Ian Grigg, Jackie Tierney, Simon Gordon, Carolyne Browne, Phil Neale, Stuart Hatton and Richard Finnegan.

    On Sunday Helen Dempsey completed the Swansea Half Marathon in somewhat warm conditions in a time of 2: 28 hrs.

    Finally a reminder that the Tamworth Gate Gallop trail 10k takes place on Sunday 30th June. The event is organised by the club with all proceeds going to St Giles Hospice and there are still some places available. Please see the St Giles Hospice website for further information.

  • Weekly Round Up – 17th June 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was no Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday due to flooding but a few keen Peelers were determined not to miss out so went on tour instead. Several went to Sutton Park with Mike Shelton first round in 21.37 mins followed by Carolyne Browne (27.28), Tim Mudd (27.41) and Nicolas Neale (31.13) also attending. Mark Webster was 11th overall at the first ever Chasewater parkrun in a time of 19.10 mins. At Conkers parkrun Rob Mace finished third overall in 18.04 mins with Alison Upton completing in 29.11 mins. Marie Llewellyn completed the Gadebridge parkrun in 23.48 mins. Dave Fern completed the Lanhydrock event in Cornwall in 27.10 mins and Jackie Tiernery finished the Stratford upon Avon event in 27.09 mins.

    Wednesday evening featured the Washlands Relay in Burton on Trent, consisting of two mile ish loops with teams of 4, suitably named by club secretary Val Lawson! The event went ahead despite earlier flooding concerns and there was a strong club turnout although the weather was far from kind.

    Who Let the Peel Out? were 8th overall in a time of 49.29. Well done to Rob Mace, Martin Hollamby, Emma Pick and Mark Webster.
    Peel Me Baby One More Time were 28th in 57.52 mins (Lee Rickards, Malcolm Bembridge, Matt Shaw and Phil Neale)
    I Fought the Peel (The Peel Won) were 35th in 1:01.49 hrs (Darren Truman, Tim Mudd, Emma Livingstone and Rob Mace (again!))
    The Peel Are Back in Town finished 45th in 1:05.46 (Andrew Pickard, Simon Gordon, Jo Insley and Carolyne Browne)
    Don’t Stop Depeeling were 47th in 1:06.34 (Ash Goodman, Carl Hole, Judith Matthews and Jackie Tierney)
    Strawberry Peel Forever were 50th in 1:09.31 (Darren O’Leary, Sandra Ingram, Zoe Schnepp and Val Lawson)
    Finally A Whiter Shade of Peel didn’t have a full team but well done to Donna Lancaster and Emma Birtles for running anyway.

    Further afield Tricia Bunn completed the Comrades Marathon, a 55 mile ultra race in South Africa, in 10:31 hrs.

    Ash Goodman completed the Hampton in Arden 9 mile race in 1:07.30 hrs and Val Lawson completed the very hilly Trail Half Marathon in North Wales in a time of 2:44.55 hrs. Vicky and Wendy Bowyer completed the Birmingham Sunrise 5k, both in a time of 34.05 mins but unfortunately couldn’t see the sun rise through the pouring rain! Finally well done to Lawrence Williamson who completed the 70.3 mile Staffordshire Half Ironman triathlon last weekend despite feeling under the weather.

  • Weekly Round Up – 10th June 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Saturday morning’s parkrun at Kingsbury Water Park was a soggy affair with heavy rain throughout. This was reflected in the much reduced turnout of 320 runners, which was about half the usual number. However a few hardy Peelers braved the conditions.

    First home for the club, indeed the first home, was Rob Mace who won the event in a quick 16.20 mins. Following Rob not too closely behind was Andrew Pickard who finished in 23.50 mins, Tim Mudd (26.27), Michael Stevenson (27.42), Alison Upton (28.42), Caroline Evans (32.06), Ann Hill (32.38) and Sarah French (32.43). Thanks go to Mark Boffey for volunteering, becoming a regular in recent weeks.

    On tour were Mark Webster who was fourth overall at Sutton Park parkrun in 20.13 mins. Also running were Mike Shelton (22.46) and Simon Gordon (23.48). Martin Hollamby was third overall at the Whinlatter Forest parkrun in the Lake District, one of the hilliest in the country, in 21.15 mins.

    The Derby Half Marathon took place on Sunday with sole club representative Emma Pick finishing as second lady overall in a new personal best time of 1:26.04 hrs. From one of the clubs youngest lady members to the eldest, Christine Norris completed the Aldridge 10k in a time of 1:15.15 hrs, winning her age category. Emily Eva Holliday completed the notoriously hilly Potters Half Marathon in Stoke on Trent, her first half marathon, in a time of 2:30 hrs. Martin Hollamby completed the Blencathra Fell Race in 1:30.26 hrs; this was an eight mile race across mountainous terrain with half a mile of vertical ascent.

    Friday evening marked the club’s annual awards night, held at Bolehall Manor. As well as a good time being had by all, the achievements of club members were celebrated with the following awards:

  • Weekly Round Up – 3rd June 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good turnout for Saturday’s parkrun at Kingsbury Water Park with some strong performances in evidence.

    The first Peeler home in third place overall, as well as first lady, was Emma Pick in a time of 18.19 mins, a minute and a half quicker than her previous best. Mark Webster wasn’t far behind finishing in fifth place overall in a new personal best time of 18.59 mins. Mike Shelton finished in 16th place overall in 20.22 mins. Dave Fern was next home in 23.24 mins, followed by Stuart Hatton (25.27), Jackie Tierney (27.02), Michael Stevenson (27.43), Joanne Turner (32.57), Wendy Bowyer (33.02), Lesley Ann Nolan (35.47), Lisa Vickery (36.34), Alison Dolphin (37.30), Sarah French (37.34) and Christine Norris (37.46). The Club was also well represented among the parkrun volunteers with Mark Boffey, Richie Bunn, Tricia Bunn, Darren O’Leary, Mike Shelton and Darren Truman helping to make the event possible. Away from Kingsbury, Andrew Pickard completed the Penistone event in Yorkshire in 23.29 mins and Zoe Schnepp the Cuernden Valley parkrun in Preston in 26.22 mins.

    Sunday was the date for the annual 8.5 mile Great Midlands Fun Run in Sutton Coldfield and, as expected for a local event, there was a strong club presence. It was encouraging to see some of the newer club members and previous couch to 5k course graduates attempting the event for the first time.

    First home for the club was Mark Webster in an impressive 57.31 mins. He was followed by Malcolm Bembridge who finished in a new personal best time of 1:01.49 hrs. Simon Gordon was next home in 1:07.59 hrs followed by Darren Truman (1:08 hrs) and Judith Matthews (1:09.25). Mike Shelton and Darren O’Leary both finished in 1:14 hrs despite a detour to a bar en route (see picture). Rachel Casey finished in 1:17 hrs, ahead of Emma Livingstone (1:18 hrs), Jackie Tierney (1:21), Mark Boffey (1:21.23), Carolyne Browne and Sophie Galloway (both 1:21.44). Jo Insley completed the course with her 9 year old son in 1:25 hrs, Stella Martin finished in 1:29 hrs, followed by Alison Upton who set a new personal best of 1:27 hrs. Ian Grigg finished in 1:30 hrs, Sarah Louise French (1:41 hrs) and Chrstine Norris (1:47 hrs).
