  • Weekly Round Up – 3rd June 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good turnout for Saturday’s parkrun at Kingsbury Water Park with some strong performances in evidence.

    The first Peeler home in third place overall, as well as first lady, was Emma Pick in a time of 18.19 mins, a minute and a half quicker than her previous best. Mark Webster wasn’t far behind finishing in fifth place overall in a new personal best time of 18.59 mins. Mike Shelton finished in 16th place overall in 20.22 mins. Dave Fern was next home in 23.24 mins, followed by Stuart Hatton (25.27), Jackie Tierney (27.02), Michael Stevenson (27.43), Joanne Turner (32.57), Wendy Bowyer (33.02), Lesley Ann Nolan (35.47), Lisa Vickery (36.34), Alison Dolphin (37.30), Sarah French (37.34) and Christine Norris (37.46). The Club was also well represented among the parkrun volunteers with Mark Boffey, Richie Bunn, Tricia Bunn, Darren O’Leary, Mike Shelton and Darren Truman helping to make the event possible. Away from Kingsbury, Andrew Pickard completed the Penistone event in Yorkshire in 23.29 mins and Zoe Schnepp the Cuernden Valley parkrun in Preston in 26.22 mins.

    Sunday was the date for the annual 8.5 mile Great Midlands Fun Run in Sutton Coldfield and, as expected for a local event, there was a strong club presence. It was encouraging to see some of the newer club members and previous couch to 5k course graduates attempting the event for the first time.

    First home for the club was Mark Webster in an impressive 57.31 mins. He was followed by Malcolm Bembridge who finished in a new personal best time of 1:01.49 hrs. Simon Gordon was next home in 1:07.59 hrs followed by Darren Truman (1:08 hrs) and Judith Matthews (1:09.25). Mike Shelton and Darren O’Leary both finished in 1:14 hrs despite a detour to a bar en route (see picture). Rachel Casey finished in 1:17 hrs, ahead of Emma Livingstone (1:18 hrs), Jackie Tierney (1:21), Mark Boffey (1:21.23), Carolyne Browne and Sophie Galloway (both 1:21.44). Jo Insley completed the course with her 9 year old son in 1:25 hrs, Stella Martin finished in 1:29 hrs, followed by Alison Upton who set a new personal best of 1:27 hrs. Ian Grigg finished in 1:30 hrs, Sarah Louise French (1:41 hrs) and Chrstine Norris (1:47 hrs).

  • Weekly Round Up – 27th May 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Saturday morning dawned bright and warm for the regular Kingsbury Water Park parkrun.

    The first Peeler home was Mark Webster who finished in 13th place overall in an impressive time of 19.18 mins. He was followed by Darren O’Leary in 23.12 mins, Tim Mudd (25.24), Stuart Hatton (25.36), Alison Upton (28.25), Michael Stevenson (28.32), Ann Hill (30.25) and Wendy Bowyer who finished in a new personal best time of 32.27 mins. Ash Goodman came home in a time of 34.27 mins. Peelers were well represented amongst the parkrun volunteers with Mark Boffey, Richie Bunn, Tricia Bunn and Darren Truman helping make the event possible.

    Away from Kingsbury, Andrew Pickard completed the Sheffield Concord event in 23.06 mins and Jackie Tierney finished the Alvaston parkrun in 27.10 mins.

    Sunday found a couple of hardy Peelers braving the rain of the Peak District for the notoriously hilly Buxton Half Marathon, which included the climb of Axe Edge. Congratulations to Richie and Tricia Bunn who finished the event in times of 1:46.49 hrs and 1:55.51 hrs respectively.

  • Weekly Round Up – 20th May 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There were a few hardy Peelers at Kingsbury Water Park on Saturday morning for the 300th running of the parkrun, although many elected to rest ahead of the Burton 10 mile race on Sunday.
    First home was Mark Webster who finished in 19th place overall in an impressive time of 19.32 mins. He was followed by Darren O’Leary in 23.29 mins with Sandra Ingram next in 27.13 mins followed by Alison Upton (28.35), Michael Stevenson (28.42), Sarah French (31.39), Jo Insley (33.15), Wendy Bowyer (33.38), Ash Goodman (33.55), Nicola Bannister (34.57), Alison Dolphin (36.56) and Chrstine Norris in 38.05 mins. Thanks go to Mark Boffey, Garth Cox, Ann Hill and Darren Truman for volunteering to help make the event possible.

    The sole Peeler on tour was Andrew Pickard who completed the Sheffield Concord event in 26.04 mins.

    The main event of the weekend was the Burton 10 mile race on Sunday, the third in the Burton District Summer League series of races between local running clubs.

    First home for the club was Ash Baldwin in 7th place overall in a fast 58.41 mins. He was followed by Emma Pick who set a new personal best time of 1:04.00 hrs to finish as first lady. Emma edged out Rob Mace, who finished in 1:04.01 hrs, with Martin Hollamby just behind in 1:04.30 hrs. Ash Goodman set a new personal best of 1:15.36 hrs followed by Simon Gordon (1:21.25), Judith Matthews (1:22.35), Dave Fern (1:32.21) and George Hope (1:26.59). Carl Hole came home in a new personal best time of 1:28.09 hrs as did Emma Livingstone, who finished in 1:30.35 hrs. Jackie Tierney completed the 10 miles in 1:35.39 hrs and Sophie Galloway in 1:37.30 hrs.

    Finally a belated mention for Helen Chyla who completed the Lichfield Half Marathon the previous weekend in a new personal best time of 1:53.53 hrs.

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good turnout of Peelers among the 600 keen runners at Kingsbury Water Park for Saturday’s parkrun.

    First home was Rob Mace who won the event overall in an impressive time of 17.54 mins, over 45 seconds clear of second place. Next home for the club was Lee Rickards in 14th place overall in 20.05 mins closely followed by Malcolm Bembridge in 17th in a new personal best of 20.32 mins. Mike Shelton was next home in 21.06 mins followed by Garth Cox (22.47), Darren Truman (23.10), Ash Goodman (23.22), Dave Fern (23.30), Simon Gordon (24.58) and Rob Hirst in 25.27 mins. Jackie Tierney was the first lady Peeler home in 26.42 mins, ahead of Tim Mudd (27.24), Carolyne Browne (27.48), Michael Stevenson (28.11), Ann Hill (32.02), Sarah French (32.33), Jo Insley (35.28), Nicola Bannister (36.04), Alison Dolphin (36.55) and Caroline Evans who finished in 37.21 mins. Thanks also go to Sandra Ingram, Tricia Bunn and Mark Boffey for volunteering to assist with the event.

    The annual Kingsbury Classic 10k took place on Tuesday 7th May at Kingsbury Water Park.This is an event which has always been close to the club as we have a good relationship with the organisers and always provide the marshalls to support the event. In addition to providing the marshalls there was a strong club turn out among the runners.

    Rob Mace was first home for the club in 9th overall in an impressive 37.21 mins narrowly beating Martin Hollamby who was 11th in 38.15 mins. Emma Pick crossed the line in 18th overall in a fast 39.38 mins, beating a ten year old ladies record in the process. Unfortunately for Emma someone else also beat the record and she had to settle for second lady overall. Mark Webster was next home in 41.29 ahead of Malcolm Bembridge (43.40), Matt Shaw (46.40) and Garth Cox who finished in a new personal best of 47.21 mins. Simon Gordon completed in 48.10 mins, just ahead of Judith Matthews (48.19), Darren Truman (49.32), Donna Lancaster (52.34) and Carl Hole, who completed his first ever 10k in 55.07 mins. Jackie Tierney crossed the line in 57.08 mins, Sophie Galloway in 57.42 mins, Stella Martin in 58.41 mins and Ian Grigg in 1:04.54 hrs. Martyn Candy once again performed the tail runner role crossing the line last in 1:22.57 mins.

    There were a few Peelers out and about for races on Sunday with Matt Shaw completing the Hereford Half Marathon in a very respectable 1:44.55 hrs and Garth Cox finishing the Bromsgrove 10k in a time of 49.46 mins. Tricia Bunn completed the Halstead marathon in 3.53 hrs, her third in as many weeks.

  • Weekly Round Up – 6th May 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Saturday dawned sunny but cool at Kingsbury Water Park park on Saturday with a good Peeler turnout among almost 600 keen park runners. Saturday marked the first outing of the eagerly anticipated new course and it did not disappoint.

    Mark Webster was first home for the club in 13th overall in 19.43 mins. He was followed by Garth Cox in 22.45 mins on his 50th park run. Judith Matthews was next home in 24.13 mins for a new personal best followed by Rob Hirst (25.13), Stuart Hatton (26.01), Sandra Ingram (26.57), Tim Mudd (25.13) and Carl Hole who set a new personal best of 27.52 mins. Michael Stevenson was next home in 28.25 mins, ahead of Ann Hill (29.58), Christine Norris (36.46), Stella Martin (36.48) and Alison Dolphin who came home in a leisurely 51.11 mins, having volunteered to act as tail walker.

    Peelers on tour included Jackie Tierney who completed the Cheltenham event in 27.21 mins, Sophie Galloway who crossed the line in Newcastle in 29.27 mins and Simon Gordon who finished the Watermeadows parkrun in Tewkesbury in a time of 23.45 mins. Closer to home Nickolas Neale completed Sutton Park parkrun in 23.50 mins.

    On Sunday Tricia Bunn completed the North Dorset marathon in a time of 4:00 hours while several Peelers were at Uttoxeter racecourse for the Uttoxeter half marathon, the second race of the Burton and District Summer League (BDSL) that the club participates in. Given the challenging nature of the course, some strong performances were in evidence with Cathedral to Castle winner Rob Mace crossing the line in 15th place overall in a fast 1:25.17 hrs, narrowly beating Mark Harriott who finished in 1:27.29 hrs. Ash Goodman finished in 1:41.52 hrs, smashing his half marathon personal best in the process,
    Craig Strong in 1:51.11 hrs, Dave Fern in 1:53.21 hrs, sole Peel lady Val Lawson in 2:07.21 hrs and David Ash in 2:13.33 hrs.

  • Weekly Round Up – 29th April 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This last weekend was a busy one for the club with key races in London and closer to home in Stratford on Avon.

    The club was represented at the London Marathon on Sunday with Ash Baldwin the first home from the club in a very fast 2:48 hrs, a new personal best. Martin Hollamby finished in 3:02 hrs, just ahead of Mark Harriott who completed the event in 3:07 hrs. Jo Insley and Emma Livingstone ran together, completing in 4:36 which was a personal best for Jo and a strong performance from Emma in her first marathon.

    Sunday was also the date for the Shakespeare marathon and half marathon in Stratford on Avon. In the marathon Malcolm Bembridge set a new personal best of 3:39 hrs and Darren Truman completed in 4:38 hrs. Veteran Peeler Robert (Bob) Donovan finished in 5:10 hrs to complete his 100th marathon, which is all the more impressive at over 70 years of age!

    There was a strong Peel turn out for the Shakespeare half marathon, with members wanting to be in Stratford to support Bob.

    First home for the club was Rob Mace in a very quick 1:24.33 hrs for a new personal best . Not far behind was Emma Pick who also recorded a new personal best of 1:28.26 hrs. Phil Neale completed in 1:36.02 hrs followed by Mike Shelton (1:41.47), Matt Shaw (1.45.03) and Simon Gordon who set a new personal best of 1:49.07 hrs. Sophie Galloway completed in 2:08.09 hrs followed by Caroline Evans and Ian Grigg who both finished in 2:27.26, congratulations to Caroline on completing her first half marathon. Fellow first timers Moira Twiggs completed in 2:50.50 hrs, Christine Norris in 2:53.28 hrs and Alison Dolphin in 2:54.03 hrs.

    Tricia Bunn completed a different challenge over the weekend, competing in the Fox Ultra race. She completed a challenging 38 miles in 6:49 hrs.

    There was a smaller than normal club turnout for the Kingsbury Water Park parkrun on Saturday with many conserving their energy for Sunday’s races.

    Mark Webster was first home for the club in 11th overall in a quick 20.11 mins. He was followed by Mark Boffey (23.13 mins), Sophie Galloway (27.13), Sandra Ingram (27.47), Michael Stevenson (28.11) and Mick Cooper who finished in 30.30 mins. Elsewhere Andrew Pickard completed the Sheffield Concord event in 23.34 mins and Ash Gordon (22.42) and Robert Hirst (28.39) at the Sutton Park parkrun.

  • Weekly Round Up – 22nd April 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good turnout at Kingsbury waterpark on Saturday morning for an Easter themed parkrun with a good Peeler turnout among the 600 keen runners. Several keen Peelers ran from Fazeley to Kingsbury, ran parkrun and then ran home, making it a 15 mile effort.

    Mark Webster was first home for the club in a quick 20.14 mins. He was followed by Phil Neale in 22.00 mins and Garth Cox who set a new personal best of 22.25 mins. Ashley Goodman was next home in 23.11 mins followed by Darren O’Leary (24.36), Marcus Fairburn (26.17), Darren Truman (27.01), Alison Upton (28.29), Sophie Galloway (28.30) and Michael Stevenson (28.49). Stuart Hatton crossed the line in 31.00 mins, followed by Jo Insley who ran a steady 33.33 mins, ahead of her London Marathon outing next weekend. Christine Norris (38.20) narrowly pipped Alison Dolphin to the line (38.24) and Mark Boffey had a leisurely outing supporting a friend’s first park run in 50.17 mins.

    Elsewhere Emma Pick finished as first lady at Conkers parkrun in an impressive 19.05 mins and in 18th place overall. Martin Hollamby completed the Fire Service College parkrun in Moreton in the Marsh in second place overall in 18.54 mins and Simon Gordon completed the Brighouse event in 23.12 mins.

    There were several races over the weekend, with the unseasonal heat making racing a challenge. Mike Shelton completed the Bournemouth Quarter Marathon (10.5k) in 50.39 mins, Dave Fern completed the Easter Bunny 10k at Chasewater in 51.40 mins and Garth Cox finished the Massey Ferguson Tractor 10k at Stoneleigh Agricultural Centre in a time of 49.54 mins.

  • Weekly Round Up – 15th April 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a good turnout at Kingsbury waterpark on Saturday morning, with a distinctly sunny but cool feel to proceedings. Rob Mace soon warmed up nicely leading the Peelers home in 12th place overall in 18.48 mins. Next home was Mark Webster (20.05), Dave Fern (22.50), Garth Cox (23.16) and Natalie Walker who set a new personal best of 23.35 mins. Marcus Fairburn crossed the line in 25.16 mins, followed by Simon Gordon (25.44), Stuart Hatton (27.23), Michael Stevenson (28.15) and Ian Grigg (31.23) managed to hold odd Daren Truman (31.25 mins). Mark Boffey stopped the clock at 31.56 mins, ahead of Sarah French and Wendy Bowyer who finished in 33.19 mins, a new personal best for Wendy.

    There were several Peelers on tour most notably Tim Mudd and Caroline Browne who were literally tourists completing the Crissy Field parkrun in San Francisco within sight of the Golden Gate Bridge. Tim finished in 27.12 mins and Caroline 33.18 mins. In slightly less exotic territory, Rob Hirst completed the Perry Hall parkrun in Birmingham in 33.18 mins and Jackie Tierney cantered round the Worcester parkrun in 27.25 mins. Nicola Bannister finished the Gedling Nottingham event in 36.55 mins.

    On Saturday the Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon took place with the challenge of tackling the hilly forest trails attracting a couple of Peelers. Mike Shelton completed the distance in 1:54 hrs and Sophie Galloway crossed the line in 2:20 hrs.

    On Sunday George Hope completed the Great Welsh Marathon in a very respectable time of 4:16.23, a new personal best. Andrew Pickard enjoyed the hills of Sheffield, completing the Sheffield Half Marathon in a time of 1:44.12, and Richard Jones completed the Olympic Half Marathon in 2:03.45 hrs.

    Most active Peeler of the week was Lawrence Williamson who competed in the Battlefield Duathlon finishing in sixth place overall and qualifying for the European middle distance championships in the process. He had to run 20k then cycle 50 miles and finish with a 10k run.

  • Weekly Round Up – 8th April 2019

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Last weekend was a busy one in the race calendar with Peelers in action at several events:

    The annual Cathedral to Castle 10 mile race from Lichfield to Tamworth took place on Sunday morning with a strong club turn out. Congratulations to Rob Mace who won the event finishing in a very impressive 1:00.58 hrs. Next home for the club was Phil Neale in a quick 1:12.57 hrs followed by Joanne Harvey (1:19.23), Simon O’Reilly (1 19.34 ) , Lisa Jones Bignell (1.19.48) and Simon Gordon (1:21.04). Garth Cox was next in a new personal  best of 1:23.39 hrs followed by Helen Chyla (1.23.47), Sophie Galloway (1.32.09, a personal best), Jackie Tierney (1:41.11) and Caroline Evans also recording a personal best of 1:46.28 hrs.

    It was also encouraging to see several newer club members completing their first 10 mile event and in decent times. Congratulations go to Alison Upton (1:43.02), Ann Hill and Sarah French (both 1:52.50), Wendy Bowyer (1:53.40), Jannette Faulkner (1:59.04) and Nicola Pearce (2:03.05). Christine Norris (2:08.46) narrowly pipped Alison Dolphin (2:08.57) at the finish.

    Four peelers attempted the Manchester Marathon on Sunday. First peeler home was Richie Bunn in a solid 3:44.19 hrs finishing just ahead of wife Tricia who completed in 3:47.29. Judith Matthews was next home in 3:53.42 hrs followed by Sandra Ingram who finished in 3:45.03 hrs.

    Sunday also featured the Run in the Forest 5 mile event at Conkers . This is the first race in the Burton and District Summer League that the club participates in and it was encouraging to see a good club turnout despite the distractions of other events. First home for the club in 4th overall was Ash Baldwin in a new personal best of 28.04 mins. He was followed by Emma Pick who finished first lady in a new personal best time of 31.22 mins. Mark Webster was next in 34.08 mins followed by Mike Shelton (34.56), Ash Goodman (37.15), Darren Truman (38.07), Mark Boffey (39.02, a personal best), Dave Fern (39.31), Craig Strong (41.32), George Hope (42.19), Marcus Fairburn (43.12), Carolyne Browne (43.42), Val Lawson (46.42), Peter Seedhouse running his first race for several years (48.46) and Helen Manton (50.06).

    With all the race activity at the weekend, only 5 hardy Peelers ran parkrun at Kingsbury Water Park on Saturday morning. Well done to Mark Webster who was 19th overall in 21.00 minutes, Darren Truman (23.52), Natalie Walker (25.00), Tim Mudd (26.59) and Sophie Galloway (27.15). Elsewhere Jackie Tierney completed the Rushcliffe parkrun in 28.46 mins and Michael Stevenson the Solihull event in 28.37 mins.

    At Kingsbury Water Park the first Peeler home was Mark Webster in a quick 19.54 mins. He was followed by Ashley Baldwin in 22.17 mins and Sandra Ingram was the first lady Peeler home in 25.11 mins. Carolyne Browne was next (25.39), followed by Rob Hirst (26.54), Jackie Tierney (27.01), Michael Stevenson (28.19), Alison Upton (29.49) and Ian Grigg who completed in 31.02 mins.  Ann Hill was next home in 33.31 mins, followed by Mark Boffey (33.45), Sarah French (34.05) and Alison Dolphin (39.19).

    Several Peelers took advantage of the good weather to travel further afield. Garth Cox completed the Bedworth parkrun in 23.23 mins, Marcus Fairburn clocked 25.53 mins at Conkers, Matt Shaw recorded 22.31 mins at Newent in the Forest of Dean, Andrew Pickard completed the Rother Valley event in a new personal best time of 20.46 mins and Mike Shelton completed the Sutton Park event in a quick 21.13 mins.

    The club is pleased to announce that it still has some places available on its next couch to 5k course, starting on Tuesday the 16th April at 6.30pm at the Snowdome. The course is aimed at beginners and will last for 9 weeks and you will need to commit to running 3 times a week; one coached session and twice by yourself to perform set exercises. Each session will be led by our qualified coaches and last around 30 minutes including a warm up and warm down. During our first session we will provide an introduction to the course and provide an opportunity to ask questions. The course will finish with a 5k run, either at a Kingsbury Water parkrun or the fun run at the Tamworth Gate Gallop on the 30th June.

    The course is open to all abilities and ages from 12+, although anyone under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. It is also open to runners who may have attended a couch to 5k course previously.  We are able to offer the course free of charge, with the support of Tamworth council.
