Sunday 7th May saw the Lichfield Half Marathon take place. The race which finishes under the gaze of the famous Cathedral saw Michael Shelton cross the finish line in 01:28:33 and Rachael Rickards as the first female Peeler home in a time of 01:40:04 followed in by Lisa Crane in 02:01:21 and Carloyne Browne in 02:08:58.

On the same weekend Zoe Schnepp was up in the Lake District running the Kentmere Trail Race in Staveley. The 17km off road run proved no match for Zoe as she finished with a time of 01:43:58

At the other end of the country Richie Bunn & Tricia Adams were putting the finishing touches to their Comrades training by running the Essex Halstead marathon – both crossing the line in 03:57:00

Danielle Louise Baker was in Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford on Avon running the half marathon course in a time of 02:03:13

Peelers were also out on Parkrun duties that week. At Kingsbury Tim Gould was home first with a time of 21:20mins with Ashley Perks not too far behind in 21:46mins. Tim Mudd was next to cross the finish line in 24:04mins, Robert Hirst with 24:17mins, George Hope with 25:24mins and Stuart Hatton (still recovering from his London exploits) crossed the line in 26:03mins with Richard Finnigan. First Peel lady across the line was Sandra Ingram, also with a post London time of  27:22 mins. Behind Sandra was Owen Slater in 27:43mins and Jayne Coles in 33:57mins.

Tuesday 9th May was the return of the Kingsbury Classic 10km race around the lakes at Kingsbury Water Park. A popular midweek event in its 17th year, supported and marshalled by the Peel Road Runners, manages to attract runners from all over the midlands and further affield. Whilst many Peelers were wearing their hi-viz marshalling vests there were some running the event too. David Fern was the first Peel Road Runner to the finish with a time of 46:14mins and was also the first to finish in his age category. Tim Mudd finished next with 50:03mins. Joanne Harvey was the first Peel lady to cross the finish line with 52:42mins. Stella Martin was next home with 55:33mins and Martyn Candy was the tail runner with 85:59mins.

On Saturday 13th May it was back to Kingsbury for many Peel Road Runners and as the season progresses so the run times start to tumble down. Tim Gould crossed the line in 17th place with a time of 20:33mins with Ashley Perks once again hot on his tail with a time of 21:11mins. Stuart Hatton had a much improved run with a time of 22:38mins. Tim Mudd was next home with 24:14mins, Darren Truman with 24:44mins, Owen Slater with 27:45mins and Allan Williams with 29:37mins. For the Peel Road Runners ladies, Joanne Turner was the first to cross the finish line with 29:24mins, Liz Morgan closely followed Joanne in with 29:26mins and Annie Wilson 32:46mins.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners travelled far and wide over the extended Bank Holiday weekend to get their running fixes in.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]For the second BDSL race of 2017 season, runners from all over the midlands converged at Uttoxeter on Sunday 30th April for the Uttoxeter Festival of Running Half Marathon. Running in Peel colours for the mens division were Robbie Baden 1:26:28, Michael Shelton 1:32:58, Lee Rickards 1:43:41, Dave Fern 1:50:24, Richard Finnegan 2:00:40. The team scored 229pts and finished in 10th place overall.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”529″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Ashley Perks completed his first ever Marathon down in Milton Keynes. Starting and finishing at the home of the MK Dons, the 26.2 mile course looped around the city and surrounding areas taking in tree lined boulevards, cycle paths around lakes, parks & woodland. Although feeling it in the latter stages of the run, Ashley battled on and finished in a time of 4:13:04[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”533″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Also running down at Milton Keynes and continuing their Comrades training were Richie Bunn 3:43:29, Tricia Bunn 3:48;57. Meanwhile Bob Donovan continued his own epic multi marathon year finishing with a time of 5:08:26.

The roads were also closed in Birmingham City Centre at the weekend for the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k road race. Anna Waugh was the sole participant for the Peel Road Runners and with her first 10k in the last 18 months crossed the line with a time of 1:02:12

At the busy Kingsbury Water Parkrun last week, the first Peel Road Runner home was Richie Bunn (before departing for Milton Keynes) with 22:10mins. An improving Zoe Schnepp ran a ‘post baby personal best’ time of 22:55mins (just 4 seconds of her all time PB!) Tim Mudd came home in 24:23mins. Next Peeler across the finish line with 24:43mins was Robert Hirst with Darren Truman behind Robert with 27:20mins and Laura Bowyer with 34:15mins.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners converged on the capital at the weekend for one of the greatest spectacles of the running calendar – The Virgin Money London Marathon.   [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”524″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Whilst many were glued to the television or following their friends on various tracking apps on mobile phones, the Peelers own Sandra Ingram, Stuart Hatton & Colin Frost were amongst the many thousands of lucky runners that were ready to eat up the miles on those famous London streets.

Weather conditions could not have been better as the 3 marathon virgins took to the starting line on Sunday morning and with their winter training well and truly behind them, it was now the 26.2miles that lay ahead of them.

Running and raising money for their respective Charities, all 3 Peelers successfully crossed the finish line in the Mall to be presented with their finishers medal and T/Shirt, along with a well earned drink (or two!). Their finishing times were:

Rachael Rickards continued with her post baby comeback and followed Dave home with 24:09mins. Tim Mudd finished with 24:38mins, Shaun Coyle, struggling with an injury was next home with 28:10mins. Laura Bowyer finished with 28:18mins, Owen Slater with 32:21mins and Jayne Coles with 32:24mins.

Over at the Chippenham Parkrun, Peel Road Runner Mags Smith ran a time of 25:01mins and Robert Hirst ran a 25:28mins at the Perry Hall Parkrun.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners had a cracking Easter with some eggs-ceptional performances  both home and away.

Zoe Schnepp hopped up the A5 to run at the Chasewater Easter Egg 10k event. The route which took in the undulating paths and trails around the Chasewater Reservoir saw Zoe smash her PB her with a time of 48:46mins.

Scrambling around the Northampton countryside was Bob Donovan who was running in the Chocothon Marathon. Bob completed the 26.2 mile course in 5:21:20

Turning out for Kingsbury Water Parkrun duties last week, the first Peel Road Runner to (hot) cross (bun) the line was Tim Gould in a quick 21:14mins. Next Peeler across the finish following some time off with an injury was Shaun Coyle with 23:42mins with Stuart Hatton closely behind with 23:51mins.

Marcus Fairburn chased Stuart home with 24:49mins. Robert Hirst finished with 24:55mins, Sandra Ingram with 25:36mins and was followed home again by Darren Truman with 25:37mins and George Hope with 26:25mins.

Meanwhile, at the Delamere Parkrun, Peel Road Runner Robbie Baden ran an eggs-traordinary time of 18:18mins, finishing in 5th place overall in a field of 418 runners.

And finally, after 16wks of focussed training, the Peel Road Runners would also like to wish Sandra Ingram, Stuart Hatton and Mark Harriott the very best of luck with their endeavours in the  London Marathon this coming weekend.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners kicked off the 2017 Burton and District Summer League (BDSL) race calendar at the weekend with the Run in the Forest 5 miler.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”514″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]The Run in the Forest is a mix of road / multi terrain running around the scenic trails of Conkers and the Donisthorpe Woodland. The glorious weather gave for perfect running conditions at the weekend and as many as 15 race ready Peelers took to the starting line.

First Peel Road Runner to cross the finish line was Martin Hollamby who came home in 3rd place overall with a very quick 29:35mins. 2nd Peeler home following Martin in was Robbie Baden in an excellent 30:38mins. Not too far behind was Ashley Baldwin with 30:54mins. Club Chairman Lee Rickards was the next member to cross the finish line in 32:45mins. Michael Shelton was home in 33:13mins, David Fern with 38:24mins, Rachel Rickards made her racing return with 38:31mins, Zoe Schnepp (running without baby Sally) was next in 40:26mins, Tim Mudd in 41:41mins, Darren Truman with 42:36mins, Carolyne Browne in 43:09mins, Rob Hirst in 43:46mins, Owen Slater 44:32mins, Helen Manton 45:36mins and Club Secretary Val Lawson in 45:46mins.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Sunday also saw the Cathedral to Castle 10 mile multi terrain race. Starting at the wonderful Lichfield Cathedral, the route passes through Hopwas Woods and finishes in the grounds of  Tamworth Castle. Keeping his good race form going ahead of the forthcoming Milton Keynes Marathon, Ashley Perks crossed the line in 28th place overall and 3rd in his age category with a very pacy 1:15:37

Richard Finnigan had himself a well earned drink after finishing with a time of 1:24:15, just ahead of Marcus Fairburn who managed a time of 1:27:46 Next Peeler home was Joanne Harvey with 1:28:00 and Jason Church followed Joanne home in 1:30:12[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”515″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]On Kingsbury Water Parkrun duties last week, the first Peel Road Runner to cross the line again was Ashley Perks in a quick 21:35mins. Next Peeler across the finish line and very much in tapering mode ahead of London was Sandra Ingram with 25:40mins, Darren Truman must have been holding on to Sandra’s hand as he too crossed the finish line in a matching time of 25:40mins.

George Hope followed Sandra & Darren home with 26:31mins. Owen Slater finished with 31:38mins.

Saturday morning was also a day to remember for 6 ‘newbie’ runners who successfully completed their ‘Couch to 5k’ training programme with the Peel Road Runners by running the Kingsbury Water Parkrun. The happy graduates were Jayne Coles 31:39mins, Kelly Sippitts 31:45mins, Claire Farmer 32:31mins, Michelle C Fisher 33:37mins, Alison Dolphin 35:33mins and Susan Cartmell 35:41mins. Well done to all finishers!! 5K to 10k next up??

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners were present at the first ever Virgin Active Solihull Half Marathon at the weekend.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”508″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]The event starting and finishing at the Blythe Valley Park, Solihull opened with chilly conditions but soon warmed up as the sun eventually shone through. The route meandered through the local countryside and had an unexpected and unwelcome twist right at the end of the 13.2miles with the finish line tantalisingly in sight. Ashley Perks was the first Peel Road Runner home. Running in Peel team colours for the first time Ashley crossed the line in 91st place with a time of 1:40:04 Darren Cotton was the next Peel Road Runner to finish with a chip time of 1:56:36 followed by Lisa Crane in 1:58:26

Peelers also travelled up the M6 to the ever popular and much supported Manchester Marathon. With the finish at the Old Trafford Cricket ground, home of Lancashire Cricket Club, Dave Fern lead the Peelers home and crossed the line with a time of 3:49:35

Partners Richie Bunn and Tricia Adams ran a ‘gentle jog’ and crossed the line together in 3:52:19 and also running at Manchester was Bob Donovan who added to his growing marathon CV with 4:48:54

At the other end of the country, Michael Shelton fancied a day by the sea and travelled down to the south coast to run in the Bournemouth Bay Half Marathon. Buoyed by the sea air and the thought of a bag of chips on the seafront afterwards, Michael managed a time of 1:32:30

Over at the Kingsbury Water Parkrun, the first Peel Road Runner to cross the line was Tim Gould in a quick 22:48mins. Darren Truman finished with 24:16mins. Tim Mudd was the next Peeler to cross the line in with 24:23mins. Carolyne Browne came agonisingly close to a new PB with 25:14mins. With the London Marathon now just around the corner, Sandra Ingram finished with 25:31mins and Liz Morgan completed the Peelers across the line with a time of 28:36mins

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PEEL ROAD RUNNER Val Lawson visited the Peak District last weekend, however not for its scenic views but to run in the inaugural Monsal Trail Half Marathon. The Monsal Trail is a former railway line and the half marathon route takes in four railway tunnels and crosses the picturesque Monsal Viaduct itself. Val finished the race in 2:03:29 and enjoyed a well earned cup of tea and a slice of the local Bakewell Tart.

Kingsbury water Parkrun was the only other location to see the Peelers out running last weekend. In a packed field of runners the first Peeler home was Michael Shelton with a speedy time of 19:43mins.
Ashley Perks managed to set another new PB for the season with a time of 21:11mins
Behind Ashley was Richie Bunn 23:59mins, Tim Mudd 24:50mins, Robert Hirst 24:51mins, Lee Rickards (now recovered from the Barcelona Marathon) with 25:13mins just ahead of his wife Rachael Rickards with 25:21mins. Crossing the line immediately behind Rachael was Dave Fern with 25:22mins with Ian Grigg finishing with 29:44mins and Susan Cartmell in 40:49mins.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PEEL ROAD RUNNERS took to the roads last weekend with some strong and determined performances.

Martin Hollamby continued his recent good form just up the M6 at the Stafford Half Marathon finishing in a superb time of 1:22:43 – smashing his PB by over two minutes!!
Also running the tough course at Stafford were Dave Fern in 1:46:08, Joanne Harvey with a 1:56:49, Zoe Schnepp hit her race target time of 1:50:00, Richard Finnigan with 2:04:00 & Val Lawson who crossed the line in 2:11:04
But by far the most popular Peeler to cross the finish line at Stafford last weekend was Chris Norris. Struggling with her recent form and confidence, Chris battled on and finished the 13.1 miles in 2:51:06

Stretching their legs a little further for their marathon training saw Peelers in attendance at several 20mile races last weekend. Taking the trip down the M5 to run in the Gloucester 20 were Sandra Ingram, who struggled to keep her emotions intact after finishing with a fantastic time of 3:01:20 and Stuart Hatton who continued his comeback from injury crossing the finish line in 3:12:39

A little closer to home at the Ashby20 Jenna Wilson battled through the windy conditions to finish the two lap course and be the first Peeler home in a time of 2:52:26 Not far behind Jenna was Tracey Cox who crossed the finish line with 2:53:32 Carolyne Browne was next home with 3:13:14 and Helen Manton in 3:25:57

Micheal Shelton ran at the Richmond Half Marathon, completing the course in 1:31:10hrs

In progressively wet and windy conditions down at Milton Keynes, Bob Donovan ran the Caldercotte Lakes “Week at the knees” Marathon. A seven lap loop course saw Bob home in a time of 5:22:11

Kingsbury water Parkrun saw Tim Gould as the first Peeler home in a time of 22:37mins. Tim Mudd not too far behind with 24:04mins. Next to cross the finish was Robert Hirst in 26:07mins and George Hope in 30:23mins.

Over in Spain, club chairman Lee Rickards pounded the streets of Barcelona running his first marathon of the year, finishing with a time of 3hrs 24mins.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Back at the home of British Grand Prix, runners were taking on the Silverstone Half Marathon.

The popular London Marathon warm up event saw Peelers take to the circuit in wet and windy conditions with Sandra Ingram representing the female Peel Road Runners crossing the chequered flag in 1:55:14hrs.

Malcolm ‘Bembo’ Bembridge picked up an injury just after the half way point but still managed to finish in a credible 1:45:43hrs. Phil Neale completed the course in 1:48:21hrs and Darren Truman finished with a time of 2:09:57hrs.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”494″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Locally there were much better running weather conditions for the Florette Fradley 10k run.

A popular two-lap event around the village and surrounding areas saw Michael Shelton breeze home in 57th place finishing with a time of 40:25mins.

Following Shelton home were fellow Peelers Marcus Fairburn with 49:22mins, Lisa Crane finished with a new PB of 50:43mins, Darren Cotton in 50:56mins and Sue Fairburn in 59:08mins.

Saturday saw Bob Donovan down in London taking on the Thames Meander Marathon.

Recent weather conditions made the course very challenging in places with areas of the course under two feet of water.

Not to be put off, Donovan and the other runners waded through all of the obstacles and he crossed the line in 224th place with a time of 5:31:38hrs.

On parkrun duties, Matt Smith ran at Walsall Arboretum Parkrun finishing with a time of 19:36mins.

Over at Kingsbury Water Parkrun, the first Peeler across the line was Ashley Perks in a quick 22:19mins. Shaun Coyle finished with a personal best in 23:03mins.

Tim Mudd was the next Peeler to cross the line in 25:12mins with Dave Fern in 25:40mins and Robert Hirst with a time of 28:42mins.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners braved muddy and wintry conditions last weekend.

In Gloucester, several of the club took part in the famous ‘Dursley Dozen’, a famously gruelling 12 mile race. They tackled extremely muddy conditions and 650 m of ascent including a roped scramble called The Precipice. Martin Hollamby charged through in 1:35:02, coming an impressive 25th position overall. Paul Scholte finished the course in 1:51:28, 17th in his age category. Zoe Schnepp achieved a time of 2:16:54 and 10th in her age category and Val Lawson crossed the line in 2:34:44, 6th in her category.

Last weekend also saw the final instalment of the Birmingham & District Invitation XC league. Martin Hollamby led the club home on an undulating 10 km course in Droitwich, coming in 20th position. At the end of the season Martin is an impressive 14th place overall in the individual rankings.

Martin was followed by his teammates Lee Rickards, Mike Shelton, Ashley Baldwin, Malcolm Bembridge, Stuart Hatton, Craig Strong and Darren Cotton. Overall, the Peel Senior Men came a fantastic 8th out of 19 teams in the league at the end of the season.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”489″ img_size=”full”][vc_single_image image=”488″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]In the Midlands Womens XC League, Sandra Ingram was the first to complete the muddy course in Warwick in a time of 32:16 mins. She was closely followed by Carolyne Browne in 32:42 mins, Helen Manton in 33:02 mins and Val Lawson in 33:24 mins. The ladies team finish the season 17th in the table.

As always the club supported the local Parkrun. Tim Gould was the first to complete the 5 km in 21:16 mins. Dave Fern crossed the line in 23:39 mins, followed by Tim Mudd in 24:58 mins, Shaun Coyle in 26:01 mins and Lisa Fletcher in 49:33 mins. Tricia Bunn, Owen Slater and Lisa Fletcher were also volunteers at the event.
