[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runner Andrew Pickard tackled the Endure24 held in Bramham Park, Leeds last weekend. A 24hr trail run around a 5-mile woodland loop, the aim is to run as many laps as you can in the 24hr period. Under very hot running conditions, Andrew managed to complete 4 laps before his time and energy ran out.

Robert Donovan was at Chasewater running the Snickerthon Marathon. Another multi-lap event held around the country park itself saw Bob complete his rather hot 26.2miles in a time of 6:35:27hrs. Another club member running at Chasewater was Owen Slater, however his finishing time was not available at the time of going to press.

New member Mark Boffey ran in the new Leamington Spa Half Marathon race at the weekend where he finished his 13.2miles in a time of 1:57:51hrs. A scenic route starting at the Royal Pump Room Gardens, out through surrounding villages and countryside and back in to the town centre to finish at Mill Gardens.

It was a very bury Kingsbury Water Parkrun for the Peel Road Runners last weekend with 17 club members turning out for the Saturday morning free 5k timed run and some exceptional performances were on display despite the warm running conditions. First Peel Road Runner through the finish tunnel was Darren O’Leary with his time of 20:56mins and 20th place overall (just 20secs off his PB time). Robert Hirst was the next male Peeler to finish with his time of 23:08mins and just 17 secs off his PB on what was his 100th Parkrun (Congratulations Robert!). George Hope matched his PB time from last week running a 23:19mins 5k and is now on 99 Parkrun events completed. Following George home for the male section were Michael Shelton (25:34mins), Tim Mudd (25:37mins), Stuart Hatton (25:43mins), Dave Fern (26:01mins), Ian Grigg (30:18mins) and Darren Truman (30:19mins).

The first Peel Road Runner female finisher at Kingsbury last week was Sandra Ingram with her time of 25:29mins just ahead of Jo Insley who ran a new PB with her finishing time of 25:34mins. Following Jo home was Sophie Galloway who ran a time of 26:01mins, Emma Livingstone then clocked up a new 5k PB when she ran a time of 26:37mins. Caroline Evans ran a 32:57min race and Christine Norris finished with a time of 38:03mins for her 5k and was 1st in her age category on the day.

The only Parkrun tourist of the weekend was Andrew Pickard who ran at Temple Newsam where he ran a time of 25:58mins for his 5k.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners played host to the annual Gate Gallop Charity Event last weekend helping to raise funds for St Giles Hospice. The event, which is also part of the BDSL Summer league, has the main 10k Trail race plus mini races and lots of other activities and this year was blessed with some glorious weather which was not given the thumbs up by all the runners.

Many of the club members were on volunteering duties on the day ranging from on course marshalling to selling tea & cakes but there were still a few that managed to get a run out in the main event and it was Ashley Baldwin who was the first Peel Road Runner back to Anker Valley playing fields as he crossed the finish line in 4th place overall and 1st in his age category with his excellent time of 37:36mins. Simon O’Reilly & Michael Shelton were the next two male finishers with their times of 44:38mins (a new PB for Simon) & 45:17mins respectively. Other male finishers included Richard Finnigan (53:29mins), Simon Gordon (53:47mins), Chris Taylor (1:00:48hrs), Pete Seedhouse – who managed to run it this year as an entrant as opposed to organiser (1:10:21hrs) & Darren Keenan (1:13:01hrs).

For the Peel Road Runner female runners, it was Emma Pick who just about scrambled around the course in a time of 44:18mins to finish as the first club female finisher and the 2nd placed female runner on the day. Behind Emma was Lisa Jones-Bignell with her time of 48:25mins and 3rd best female in her age category. Other female finishers on the day were Sophie Galloway (58:44mins), Caroline Evans (1:11:53hrs), Moira Twiggs (1:15:11hrs), Chris Keenan (1:15:17hrs), Alison Dolphin (1:20:28hrs) and Christine Norris (1:25:20hrs).

With most of the club focus on setting up for the Gate Gallop the following day, it was a quieter than usual Saturday morning Parkrun schedule for the club runners, however, some still managed to get in their weekly free 5k timed run. Andrew Pickard was running at the Concord Parkrun in Sheffield and he finished with a time of 21:16mins.

Other runners were at Kingsbury Water Park for their 5k, including Robert Hirst with his time of 22:51mins – a new PB on his 99th Parkrun outing. Also Running Kingsbury were Stuart Hatton (25:02mins), Tim Mudd (25:07mins), Dave Fern (27:10mins), Ian Grigg (31:22mins) and Lisa Fletcher who was once again volunteering as the tail runner / walker.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners men and women joined forces at the Washlands last week and had 6 teams entered in the 2-mile relay event. With a mix of experience and first timers spread across the six teams, everyone came together on the night to add some loud vocal support and much needed encouragement.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”931″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]“All you need is Peel” was the team with the fastest joint finishing time on the night finishing in 21st place overall. The team consisted of Darren O’Leary (13:24mins), Michael Shelton (13:03mins), Darren Truman (14:39mins) and Simon O’Reilly (13:12mins). The team finished with an overall time of 54:18mins.

“Strawberry Peels forever” were the next team to finish in 30th place overall. A mixed Team whose members were Phil Neale (13:47mins), Emma Pick (13:01mins), Owen Slater (15:42mins) and Andrew Pickard (13:31mins). The team finished with an overall time of 56:01mins.

“I Peel fine” finished in 32nd position overall with the team members Martin Hollamby (12:01mins), Simon Gordon (15:19mins), George Hope (15:13mins) and Rob Hirst (15:25mins). Total finishing time for the team was 57:58mins.

“Please Peel me” finished in 38th position with its mixed team members of Ashley Baldwin (11:14mins), Jo Insley (16:33mins), Craig Strong (15:00mins) and Val Lawson (17:56mins). Total finishing time for the team was 1:00:43hrs.

“Here comes the Peel” finished in 41st position with Malcolm Bembridge (13:57mins), Sophie Galloway (16:06mins), Trevor Thompson (13:52mins) and Stella Martin (17:32mins). Total finishing time for the team was 1:01:27hrs.

“Peel in the USSR” finished in 10th place in the all-female category with its team consisting of Sandra Ingram (16:13mins), Lisa Jones-Bignall (14:32mins) and Carolyne Browne (16:02mins). Total finishing time for the team was 46:47mins.

Best individual Peel Road Runner performances on the night came from Ashley Baldwin who finished with the 11th quickest time of the night in the men’s races and Emma Pick finished as the 6th fastest female runner on the night.

Robert Bob Donovan was back in marathon running action at Caldecote Lakes last weekend as he ran in the ‘Word Up Marathon’ and finished his 26.2miles with a time of 5:36:44hrs.

Parkrun events attended by Peel Road Runners last week included Bakewell, Conkers & Kingsbury Water Park.

Andrew Pickard ran at Bakewell and finished his 5k with a time of 22:34mins. Over at Conkers were members Robert Hirst (23:01mins), Liz Morgan (30:48mins) and Christine Norris (37:52mins). A much busier Kingsbury Water Park saw Darren O’Leary as the first Peeler to cross the finish line with his time of 20:45mins and also clock up his 150th Kingsbury Parkrun. Behind Darren was George Hope with his time of 23:19mins – a new PB.

Sandra Ingram was the first female Peeler to finish with her time of 24:40mins. Other runners on the day were Stuart Hatton (24:49mins), Stella Martin (27:33mins), Malcolm Bembridge (28:20mins), Darren Truman (28:22mins), Dave Fern (30:02mins), Caroline Evans (32:21mins), Jo Insley (38:07mins) and Lisa Fletcher was once again volunteering as Tail Runner / Walker.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners Tricia & Richie Bunn were in South Africa at the KwaMashu Parkrun event ahead of their 3rd Comrades race from Lion Park to Durban, a full 90km.

In a small field of enthusiastic and friendly runners, Tricia and Richie posted the same finishing time of 26:25mins for their 5k’s.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”927″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Andrew Pickard was slightly closer to home and running in the Rotherham Parkrun event and crossed the finish line in a time of 24:57mins.

As usual, Kingsbury Water Park hosted most of Peel Road Runners out for their weekly 5k run and last week it was Darren O’Leary who posted the quickest time of the day with 20:47mins, just 11 secs outside his PB. Phil Neale ran an excellent 5k to finish behind Darren with his time of 21:28mins which saw him post a new PB.

Other runners out of the day were Richard Finnigan (22:54mins) with another PB, beating his last by 6 secs, Robert Hirst (23:43mins), Simon Gordon (24:07mins), another Peel Road Runner PB, Stuart Hatton (24:52mins), Tim Mudd (25:10mins), George Hope (25:13mins), Mick Cooper (28:14mins) clocked up yet another PB on the day, Ian Grigg (32:09mins) making a good comeback from a long lay-off from running and Darren Truman (32:11mins) offering some much needed support to Ian with his return.

For the Peel Road Runner women, it was Sandra Ingram making the headlines as she finished as the 1st female in her age category with her time of 25:25mins. Just behind Sandra was Sophie Galloway who ran a 25:39mins 5k and another Peeler PB. Other runners on the day were Vickie Gilks (33:36mins), Wendy Bowyer (34:00mins) and Lisa Fletcher who was volunteering on tail runner duties once again.

Peel Road Runners Club Chairman Lee Rickards donned not only his running shoes but also his swimming dry-suit and cycle shoes as he participated in the Stafford Iron Man 70.3 event. His overall finish time was 5:14:57hrs which was broken down in to a 1.9km swim in 38:18mins, a 90.1km bike ride which he completed in a time of 2:47:30hrs with a 21.1km run to finish which he managed in a time of 1:40:38hrs.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners were amongst the thousands of runners who embraced the challenge of Cardiac Hill in Sutton Park as part of the Great Midlands Fun Run. The popular local 8.5mile run took place last weekend in rather warm running conditions but still the Peelers provided some great running performances and new personal bests.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”923″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]The unofficial times for the event had Malcolm Bembridge as the first Peel Road Runner to cross the finish line with his recorded time of 1:02:53hrs, a new PB beating his 2017 time by 7mins. Darren O’Leary finished just behind with his time of 1:04:40hrs. Carolyne Browne was the first Peel female to finish as Carolyne recorded an unofficial time of 1:17:23hrs for her 8.5miles. Just behind Carolyne was Jo Insley who probably had the best Peel performance of the day when she ran a new PB time of 1:17:25hrs (unofficial). Sandra Ingram finished just behind Jo with her time of 1:19:00hrs.

It was a busy week for Peel Road Runners at Parkrun events across the region last weekend too. Liz Morgan was the sole representative at Conkers where she ran a time of 30:45mins for her 5k. Andrew Pickard was running in Sheffield at the Concord Parkrun event where Andrew clocked up a time of 24:04mins and 23rd position overall.

A trio of Peelers were over at Perry Hall Parkrun – Robert Hirst, Michael Stevenson & Christine Norris who clocked up times of 25:05mins, 28:22mins & 37:27mins respectively. Christine also finished 1st in her age category.

The majority of Peel Road Runners turned out at Kingsbury Water Park for their weekly free timed 5k run. The fastest of which was Michael Shelton with his finishing time of 22:08mins, just ahead of Philip Neale with his time of 22:19mins. Simon Smith followed Phillip home with his time of 22:45mins followed across the finish line by Simon Gordon with his 24:53mins. The remaining male Peelers in action were Garth Cox (25:15mins), Stuart Hatton ran his 100th Kingsbury Parkrun (26:12mins) and Adam Chyla (27:35mins).

Leading the Peel Road Runner females home was Vickie Gilks who ran a time of 35:34mins for her 5k just ahead of Wendy Bowyer who ran 35:35min.

Lisa Fletcher (aided by Jo Insley) volunteered to run as the tail runner on the day.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runner Robert ‘Bob’ Donovan closes in on his 100 Marathon goal after completing the Worcester Marathon on Sunday 20th May, making it now 87 marathons in total. In what were very hot conditions that are not ideal for long distance running, Bob clocked up a finishing time of 5:54:00hrs for his 26.2miles and now needs only 13 more to reach that 100 personal milestone target.

For other Peel Road Runners, it was the usual Saturday morning Parkrun that got them lacing up the trainers for a little bit of (slightly) competitive running. Robert Hirst & Christine Norris travelled over to the Walsall Arboretum for their Parkrun and clocked up times of 25:08mins & 37:13mins respectively.

Over at Kingsbury Water Park there were a few more Peelers out for their Saturday morning 5k jog and they were lead home by George Hope who was the first Peel Road Runner back through the finish tunnel with his time of 24:33mins and now just 4 more runs away from run No. 100. Behind George was Tim Mudd with his time of 24:57mins just ahead of Stuart Hatton with his time of 25:10mins (his 99th run at Kingsbury) closely followed by Chris Taylor with a time of 25:12mins which was a new PB time, taking 20secs off his previous best time.

Garth Cox was next to finish with a time of 25:43mins ahead of the first Peel Road Runner female finisher Sophie Galloway with her time of 26:32mins & Lisa Fletcher with her finishing time of 33:04mins.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners once again provided the marshalling for the Kingsbury Classic 10k race last Tuesday evening. Always a very popular race on the local event calendar saw this year’s event start with a record breaking number of runners on the starting line to take part.

Robbie Baden finished in 7th position overall with his time of 37:40mins with fellow team mates Darren O’Leary in 37th place / 34th male (44:19mins), Phil Neale in 46th place / 40th male (45:57mins), Darren Truman 70th place / 56th male (48:57mins), Richard Finnigan 73rd place / 59th male (49:15mins), George Hope 81st place / 65th male (50:22mins) &Tim Mudd 105th place / 81st male (53:24mins).

For the Peel Road Runner women, it was Emma Pick who ran a terrific race to finish as the 3rd placed female with her time of 43:01mins for her 10k. Carolyne Browne fished as the 23rd placed female overall with her time of 52:53mins (first placed female in her age category) with Val Lawson finishing as the 41st female finisher with her time of 58:12mins.

Christie Rosser ran her first ever half marathon race distance at Market Bosworth at the weekend. In what were warm running conditions, Christie found the undulating course quite challenging at times and her keenness got the better of her and her starting pace proved to be quicker than she had anticipated. Grinding it out over the 13.1mile course, Christie managed a finishing time of 2:09:15hrs for her inaugural Half Marathon distance race.

Running is the same event was Lisa Jones-Bignell who was less troubled by the elevations of the course and weather as she crossed through the finish line with a superb time of 1:51:57hrs for her 13.1miles.

Another first was achieved at Market Drayton road race as Lisa Fletcher finally managed to get her hands on the Gingerbread Medal she’s been craving for as she finished the 10k course in a time of 59:51mins.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runner Darren Cotton was rubbing shoulders with Parkrun ‘royalty’ founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt OBE down in Richmond, Surrey at the London 10mile event. As Parkrun were co-hosting the event, Paul was invited down to sound the klaxon for the start of each of the race waves and even found time to run the event himself. On another undulating but very picturesque park course, Darren completed the 10miles in a time of 1:35:18hrs.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”913″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Alas poor Robert Donovan was back out clocking up more marathon miles last weekend as he participated in the Shakespeare Marathon in Stratford on Avon. The race which starts in the town centre, opposite the Bard’s old school, and runs out through the quaint old quintessential villages outside of the town and out to the countryside and back again. Bob completed the scenic 26.2mile route in 5:35:31hrs.

Back to Parkrun and Peel Road Runners gathered at Kingsbury and Bedworth for their weekly free 5k run. Robert Hirst was running as the solo Peeler at Bedworth and ran 25:57min for his 93rd Parkrun outing.

As usual it was Kingsbury where the Peelers gathered in numbers and Darren O’Leary lead the way home with his time of 21:26mins that gave him a 32nd place finisher spot on the day and clocked up his 150th Parkrun. Behind Darren was Phil Neale who ran a 22:43mins race for his Parkrun number 25. Richard Finnegan finished on 23:00mins to knock 30secs off his previous best 5k Parkrun time. Exactly 1min behind was George Hope who finished on 24:00mins and is now only 5 runs away from clocking up 100.  Following George across the finish line were Darren Truman 24:24mins, Stuart Hatton 25:10mins & Tim Mudd 26:24mins.

The first of the Peel Road Runner women to complete the 5k route was Sophie Galloway with her time of 26:59mins ahead of Stella Martin & Jo Insley who crossed the line together in 28:42mins.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peel Road Runners made the most of the glorious sunny weather on the weekend of the 5th / 6th May with members running in events at both Uttoxeter & Birmingham City Centre.

It was the Uttoxeter Half Marathon on Sunday 6th May with a handful of Peelers making the start line. Hot conditions mixed with a rather hilly course made it a tough day for running outside and it was Trevor Thompson who was the first Peel Road Runner to cross the finish line with his time of 1:50:27hrs and in 103rd place overall. Behind Trevor was Malcolm Bembridge with his time of 1:50:36hrs with the third team member Darren Truman finishing with a time of 2:02:34hrs. For the Peel Road Runners women’s team, it was Sandra Ingram first back across the finish line with her time of 2:16:42hrs with Emma Livingstone a little further back with her finish time of 2:28:43hrs. Unfortunately, neither team fielded enough runners on the day to count in the team results.

On the same day it was the Great Birmingham 10k run around the City Centre streets. A duo of Peelers entered and enjoyed each other’s company around the course and crossed the finish line together but it was Lisa Fletcher who clocked up the quicker time finishing 1 second ahead of Stella Martin with times of 1:33:55hrs & 1:33:56hrs respectively.

It was business as usual for the Parkrunners with Peel Road Runners attending Kingsbury / Conkers / Northallerton for their morning 5k run.

Robert Hirst was the sole member at Conkers and ran a 25:31min for his 5k with another sole entrant at Northallerton, Michael Stevenson notching up a time of 29:07mins for his 5k.

As usual it was a much better turn out at Kingsbury Water Park with 7 team members turning out, including some PB runs!

Martin Hollamby lead the team home with his time of 21:09mins ahead of Stuart Hatton who finished with his time of 26:19mins. George Hope wasn’t far behind Stuart with his time of 26:46mins, followed by Adam Chyla 27:17mins (a new PB by 8 secs), Sophie Galloway 27:57mins, Lisa Fletcher 29:25mins and Mick Cooper with his new PB time of 29:45mins.
